Cheating Way To Get A Superstar?
i just thought of this and u must not be able to do it cuz it sounds to good to be true but....
cant a team over the cap just sign say gilbert arenas this summer to a 1 year minimum deal then say the next offseason we'll just give u max money?
i mean once a player is on ur team arent u aloud to re sign him even if it means going over or if ur already over the cap?

incorrect. the t-wolves were admonished because they were paying him under the table on top of the signed contract (which is illegal)
to the post: you are required to have bird rights over players to be able to sign them regardless of your cap. 1 year does not grant you bird rights to the player.

do you know how the cap comes into play when it comes to "Cash considerations"? like if I remember correctly PHX traded their draft pick for cash? There's also sometimes "Cash considerations" within other trades that involve just players. Are those cash considerations suppose to be within a cap limit, or can they be any amount?

82. Can cash be included as part of a trade package?
Players can be traded for cash, and cash can be included in trade packages. The amount of cash is limited to $3 million. The cash is NOT considered when matching salaries under the Traded Player exception.
In a sign-and-trade arrangement, if the contract contains a signing bonus, then any amount of this bonus paid by the signing team counts toward the $3 million limit (see question number 76).
Pretty sure this includes trades for draft picks.

A player has to be on the team for 3 years before you obtain his bird rights... So, theoretically you COULD sign an superstar to a 3-year 15 mil contract with MLE... then give him a max contract when that is up, but
1) 3 years is a long time to make a fraction of the money you could be making just to play for a contender (hell, in 3 years they could possibly be contending where they are)
2) Its too big of a risk that the player could get injured in that 3 year span and never end up making the money they could have
I doubt it will ever happen

that always gives me a good giggle considering that it would never happen.
I love it when you make generalization about [Laker Fans] in about every post you make...its a good giggle.
Cheers.

Rick Fox, while not a max player, took significantly less money to sign with LA with the promise of a bigger contract later on. Fox wanted LA really badly because he wanted a championship ring and because he wanted to further increase his bad acting career.
If the well runs dry quickly in FA, maybe LA might lure a baller (with the MLE) who otherwise would've gotten more money other years. Atlanta, for example, doesn't have the cap space to sign a big name in the off season after the Bibby deal. That's one less team without cap space.
