I think he is better passer and ballhandler than you give him credit for. Tony's skill is that he is a great straight line dribbler but he is only soso at maneuvering around the court otherwise.
I do agree about how seemlessly he seems to fit in an offense. Its either something a player has or he doesn't have and IMO you can see it right away in a PG.

ding ding ding. we have a winner.
this team has just looked flat out bad w/out rondo on the floor for the last 2 months. i don't know how many games i have seen in the last two months where teams just go on runs when rondo goes to the bench.
to the OP try watching a game.

That we struggle on the defensive end as much as the offensive end without him that is going to be tough fix off the scrap heap.

IDK poor man's devin harris isn't that bad of a comparison.
Devin's just much more polished then Rondo with a shot that we hope Rondo can one day develop. Or at least he was with the Mavs. I'd love to trade Rondo for Harris straight up.
I'm not upset with Rondo, but I'm not happy with our PG rotation.
I think we need another PG like Armstrong,Stoud,Cassel. We'll still weather the strom with Rondo as the 35 mpg PG, but get 23 mpg out of an experienced point that can shoot or we know for sure will control the tempo and read the plays correctly for their abilities.

Rondo is a bit more pass first/defense oriented then Harris or Tony Parker but your never going to find a PERFECT comparison between players. He is pretty comparable in some ways to those two. Monta Ellis has some similiarites as well (but again more of a score first kind of guy).
My point is that i don't think he is a "lights out" kind of passer. You watch Nash and you go OMG - do you believe he made that pass..about 3 or 4 times a game.. With Rondo you don't really get those kind of crazy good passes. I don't consider him a top flight passer - but still a very good one.
I look for his offensive game to develop more as the years go by. I think he could be an awesome scorer. If he gets a J - watch out.

Bingo, Rajon simply doesn't have the ball in his hands enough to rack up a lot of assists. That said, his assist rate is 28.7, which is solid, but it isn't as high as you'd expect for a guy who doesn't take a whole lot of shots. All in all though, I wouldn't question Rondo's playmaking ability, he simply doesn't have the ball in his hands enough to put up tremendous numbers in that regard.

Several Points:
-With the game on the line you want someone who has attempted 12 threes all year to take one? How about, no. During the Denver game Posey kept launching and kept missing, this made me even angrier than the Rondo miss.
-Pierce, Allen and KG can create for themselves so we can with with a PG averaging 5 apg? Put Nash on this team, tell me if he averages 5 apg and tell me how many more wins we would have. Seriously he has given his shot some credibility now and clearly is playing with confidence (which sometimes plays a part in his erratic play) so why not drive to the hoop more and cause a double team to kick out to a spotting up Allen or House. How about PP who is known as a slasher get him the ball going to the rim, play some pick and roll with him he is bigger than most guys defending him. Remember Kendrick's career game? Why not do the same thing on a nightly basis where he draws defenders in leaving Kendrick or even KG open for a layup. He needs to go to the basket and dish. Can they create for themselves? Yes. Would having someone setting them up in the right situations benefit us? Absolutely. He is not proving to be a pure point guard, which is something this team hasnt had in years.
-Yes I have bashed Rondo in the past and yes he has changed my opinion a bit this year but I still dont ever see him being an all star and certainly think we'd be better off with many other logical options as our starting PG.

I despise fans that cheer on a team from up north or one that resembles a dinosaur. oh wait...
