Memphis game: Kidd Analysis

Post#1 » by ppp000 » Sat Feb 23, 2008 3:37 am

Kidd 15 assists, only 2 TOs, 4 steals and 2 points.

He would have had more assists if Josh Howard wasn't such a chucker tonight.

The offense was beautiful at times, easy baskets, great passes. Dirk and Jet had numerous good looks, Dirk was 8-9 (!!!) and Jet had a great game.

When Kidd came back into the game, we immediately got back to back easy baskets to put Memphis away.

Overall, I would like to see more of this, would like to see Josh adjust to the system instead of being a ballhog/chucker.

I know its only against a lowly Memphis team, but our offense looked better than what I have seen all season. Fast break points, easy baskets, less standing around dribbling around forever and forcing bad shots.

Hopefully the best is yet to come!

Only sour note tonight was Josh Howard. Also we need a back up C, Juwan is a scrub.

32 ast on 38 FG!

That was impressive even against a Memphis team whose best player is Rudy Gay.

Even Dampier had 3 asts.

15 Kidd
4 Terry
3 Dampier
3 Dirk
3 George
2 Howard
1 Bass
1 Allen

If trading Harris or Howard had to happen to make the rest of the team actually play like they want to play, it may be worth it. The best part about Kidd is that he can tell Avery to STFU! Harris would never be able to do that.

All that being said, this is still one game and it was against the worst team in the league.

Yes that's why Im not all that excited since it was against the Grizzlies, I woud like to see how this team does against the elite, but I was giggling at times over some of Kidd's passes and our easy baskets.

How many times have I seen a basket made with still time on the shot clock? How many times has Dampier been actually relevant?

I just wish Josh would come around sooner. He's obviously either still hurt or still doesn't understand the concept of passing the damn ball and not forcing bad shots.

Once Avery lets the reins completely free, I will feel better. I've been sick of Avery's iso offense all season long.

Miami is tanking.

Memphis, since the Gasol trade, is definatly the worse team in the league, especially without Miller!!!!!!!

Marion, Wade, Davis >>> Gay, Warrick, Lowry

I love the fact that Jason doesn't have to score and can utilize the weapons around him.

I thought Jason did good as well, but I would also like him to show some aggression to drive the basketball, get fouls for himself....

Yeah, we really need him to get his 10 pts a game for us, but of course he's going from being the 3rd scoring option to being the 4th, here. So, we may see a lot of lowish single-digit scoring from him. One thing we will miss is Harris' ability to generate fouls.

Well its only the 2nd game. I'm sure as he gets more comfortable with finding the guys, he'll look to drive more.

You know, JET and Dirk are shooters. Their shots need good looks and comfortable tempo. Kidd presence would make their life easier.

But Josh Howard usually creates for himself. Now, he would be better off to score from offensive boards and easy layups.

I know it is against Memphis. But the Mavs has improved their ball movemnent at the very least. I don't think they can go deep without much altheticism, though. Anyway, being a respectable dark horse is better than no chance at all.

The offense was ran a lot better when Kidd was playing obviously. I really liked the way he spread the ball around. JET definately picked up J-Ho's slack too. I hope we see more games like this

So the iso motion that won 60+ games is being uprooted for Kid? Wow, that's a heck of a lot of trust for a 35 year old point guard who isn't really a scoring threat anymore. It'll be interesting to say the least.

Don't get too used to easy buckets and layups though. The Playoffs get rougher and the tempo slows down.

Yes that very same iso offense that has given us a losing record on the road this year and has made things hard for Dirk that he even said "everything was hard"

Yes that very same iso offense that GS exploited in the playoffs b/c there was no playmaking, ball movement besides dumping it to Dirk who was swarmed by 2 or 3 defenders.

If you have watched all the Mav games this season, you would see why so many of us complained about Avery's one-dimensional, predictable iso offense.
