AJ's horrible shot selection looks good to him for some reason. Sometimes his homerism makes him freakin annoying.

Yep, I'm getting real sick of him defending AJ every freaking game. It's not just a cold streak Buck, he just sucks. If AJ stuck to trying to score in the paint we'd be fine but he can't help himself from taking bad outside shots.

"How do you like that!" is my absolute least favorite of his sayings. It always comes right after the other team makes a shot, which add to my frustration/ire.

Comcast broadcasts.

Yeah, it used to be one shot for a non-shooting foul and 2 for a shooting foul. In the penalty, it was 1 and (if you made the first) 1 for non-shooting, and 3 chances to make 2 for a shooting foul.

My least favorite Buckism is "the long 3." What is a short 3?
I also hate that he often doesn't notice Wiz substitutions until the guy has been on the floor for a minute or two.
It's not just floaters he calls "jumpers," it's also AJ's right baseline shot which is basically a hook. But at least Buck's mostly gotten over trying to be cool and calling jumpers "the J."
I like Phil much better, but I wish he'd clean up his English. "Some kind of way" is not English. And there is no such word as simUlar. (Not to mention that the obejct of a preposition, even in the plural, is "him," not "he.")

But all these pecadilloes by the announcers pale in comparison to the hateful insistence of Comcast's producers or directors on failing to show us 2 or 3 or 5 or 6 plays out of each game while they have some other **** on the screen: advertising or irrelevant replays or long, soulful closeups of the opposing coach, or interviews with "Mr." Pollin or Mrs. Pollin. (Why is he, alone, called "Mr?" Because he's rich? This is America. Every male is as much a "mister" as everyone else.) We are watching because we are basketball fans. Let us see the game, every bit of it. Save that other crap for some other time. Almost as bad are the bizarre camera angles, such as from above the backboard. There is only one basic angle from which the action can be seen on a TV. Shifting for a play or two to another angle doesn't provide interesting variety; it just leaves the viewer trying to figure out what the hell happened on that play.

Well on that note the thing I find more annoying ( but I understand because I believe Abe pays them ) is that they are way to soft on EJ and our stars like GA and AJ.

Phil actually started talking about a post game last night and why did we get away from it but for the most part, they don't ask the tough questions or point out the obvious regarding what we can do to be better.

They perpetuate the excuse making for EJ.

I know Phil knows better but he just isn't saying it to be politically correct.

So correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they just PR mouth pieces for Abe. This is why many fans haven't liked the announcers for the nationally televised games. They are looking at us more objectively and ya, some of them are idiots also.

I hate pretty much everything him and Chenier says while a player is taking a free-throw.

They think they determine whether or not the player makes a free throw or not.

You serious Doc? I find Dave Johnson to be completely unable to a)keep up with the play and b)describe with any detail what is happening.

I admire him for being a hard-working, home-town guy. He'll do any sport, any time... but, I don't think he is up for the speed of the NBA.

I miss Charlie Slowes. That guy could call a b-ball game.

And oh yeah, on the subject of this thread. I love Buck and Phil... complete homers, never ever ever critical of EJ, never with any insight that you haven't read in the Post... but passionate Washington guys and pretty easy to listen to in the evening.

I like Buck & Phil, I was just curious to see what kind of responses my question would get.

No accounting for tastes.

To my ear DJ does a fine job keeping up with the action in quick reportage. And even if I'm in the car I have no problem visualizing the action. Few pointless catchphrases, and I can tell by the tone of his voice in the first few seconds whether things are going well for the squad or not. And despite a clear passion for the game and the team, he's usually pretty objective and fair about it, minimizes the overblown homerism, calls fouls for the other team, etc.

I'm a transplant from NYC (Marv Albert always did good radio too) so I don't know Charlie Slowes. But Dave Johsnon does a good solid workmanlike job, way I hear it.

Plus, yeah, he's a blogger. Can't type worth crap, but keeps active even midgame.

i think a lot of the time he mentions him as the former USC star.

Yeah, the dude is funny. Wermol from estonia (and here) posts on there all the time. Early this year when there was no TV game scheduled and DJ was doing radio, Buck took his laptop and was posting for him (flawlessly, no typos) for a couple games. Nowadays he and Consor alternate answering folks comments online and on the air. and during commercial breaks & timeouts. Not sure if other teams do this, but seems pretty cool that the team would give direct access to the broadcast crew midgame (on the Team website).

Seriously, how many of youn's wouldn't want to IM Phil and Buck and correct their errant statistics and stuff.

Phil must have been reading this board today. He started out criticizing the Wiz for not working it inside more last night and followed up by getting on them for not finding obvious three point shooters tonight or last night.

"no call"

When a Wizard drives into heavy traffic and doesn't get bailed out by the ref. I'm not a Steve and Phil fan, but do like the radio guys. When the game is on national TV, I always watch that telecast.

Buck has more enthusiasm for the zards in his little pinky then about 80% of this board. This sucky thread and the sucky people posting in it being exhibit #1.

I love Buck and most of the time his phrases are great. He does have some annoying ones, but that doesn't take much away from the prestigious legacy that is Steve Buckhantz.

That Tom dude is such a freakin annoying homer its sickening. I remmember early in the season I was catching a C's game on sopcast to see how there new big three is. It took me five minutes to just completely turn everything of.

That dude thinks the C's get fouled on EVERY possesion.

Heinsohn is truly unbearable. By far the most homerish announcer in the NBA.

It's a shame, because he knows a lot about the game and has more experience than most. He seems like a nice, personable guy.

If he could just take off the homer shades once in a while, he'd be great.
