Best NBA announce teams?

Post#1 » by Abyss Impact » Sat Feb 23, 2008 6:01 pm

Not the national TV ones... Is it me or does the Warriors broadcast team just are really really good... They seem to call the right plays, and are not bias. They have so much emotion when their team makes a shot that could win the game.

Either the Clippers or the Knicks

Celtics have by far the worst though, they are bigger homers than their fans and never give credit to the opposing players.

Celtics. Mike Gorman is the best play by play guy in the league, and if you're a Celtics fan then you love Tommy. If you're not a Celtics fan...

Warriors aren't biased? LOL.

Shoved off with the free arm? Foyle got posterized, plain and simple. Just admit it. Don't try to say it was a foul or anything...

Phoenix, solely for Dan Majerle.

And there is not a single radio announcer that can beat Al McCoy.

ok how bout you have to include a team other than your own team, since this will just turn into a homer thread. LIke i don't think there is a color guy as unbiased and entertaining as Clyde, I just feel bad he isn't allowed to say what he really thinks about all the players.

For all fans: Nets.

For me: Magic.

Bobcats aren't bad either.

Having had the League Pass for about three years now, I can say without question that Tommy Heinsohn is the absolute worst color guy in the league. Unprofessional, uninformed, ridiculously biased...need I go on?

Celtics fan or not, I will never understand how anyone can tolerate a doddering old man who does nothing but bitch about officiating all night. Boston is getting screwed, OK, we get it. Now tell me something about the game already.

Another guy I can't stand is Sean Elliott. If you want to hear the definition of smug and arrogant, listen to Elliott call a Spurs game.

Conversely, I will agree with the OP that the Warriors crew, Jim Barnett in particular, is outstanding. I really respect Barnett's style -- always even-keeled, constantly trying to analyze what's going on to the game, complementary of good plays, regardless who made them. In short, he is the complete antithesis of Tommy Heinsohn.

I also enjoy Breen and Frazier with the Knicks. Frazier goes a little over board with the plays on word, but he at least tries to call a fair game. Breen, for my money, is about the best play-by-play guy I've heard. He is fully deserving of all the national gigs he gets in my opinion.

I give the Lakers team of Joel Meyers and Stu Lantz somewhere between a C+ and a B-. Meyers is about average -- a lot better from his Spurs days, but still nothing special. Lantz gets credit because he's a not a homer, but he goes off on too many goofball tangents to be considered upper tier.

Swirsky is awful, too.

To each is own, but I guess I'll never understand why fans want to listen to blatant homers like this guy and Heinsohn. It's the lowest denominator of fandom. When I'm watching a game, all I want is an honest opinion. If my team is playing poorly, why should I want to listen to somebody sugarcoat it and make up BS excuses about officiating or whatnot?

Then when you mix in all of Swirsky's lame catchprases -- half of which he's stolen from other anouncers -- it almost sounds like you're listening to a more polished high school broadcast.

Yeah the Warriors are a good broadcast team. Bob Fitzgerald should be doing National TV broadcasting but his partner, Jim Barnett, is a homer.

It's like Bob Fitz does the best play by play and then Jim Barnett blurts out how good Monta Ellis and Stephen Jackson are. "OMG The triple threat utilization by Stephen Jackson! What a great move!".

But yeah, like I said, Bob Fitz is the man! "AMAZING! RICHARD JEFFERSON IS RUNNING LIKE A COLT SET FREE IN THE MEADOW!". haha.

Wow, I disagree with that completely. Granted, I don't watch more than 4 or 5 Warriors games a year. But I've always been really impressed with Barnett's ability to stay impartial.

Phx is good to Majerle is great i agree with the Suns fan.

Breen for MSG goes out of his way to bash our Knick players which is why i love him.

The best local guys are without a doubt the Clippers and Sonics' crew.

Then again, I give very high points to announcing crews that aren't huge homers. Conversely that's why I hate the Celtics and Nuggets announcing teams.

^ I like Kevin Calabro a lot; he is definitely one of the better play-by-play guys in the league.

I've only seen one game that was commentated by the suns announcers but they were really horrible. they gave 2 timberwolves players other names or misspelled them, rashad mccants was said to have an ACL (he had a microfracture) and IIRC they we're boarderline homer (but I'm not sure if it were them because I was quite tired)

oh and since I'm a wolves fan I'd be a homer to take the wolves announcers but a few non-wolves posters said on the wolves board that we have a decent announcing crew.

but my pick goes to the nets!! I really like marv and co.
