Worst possible Matchup for each of these teams in Round 1

Post#1 » by JordansBulls » Sat Feb 23, 2008 7:07 pm

Who is the Worst possible Matchup for each of these teams in Round 1?

Which team would give each team on the left side the hardest time in the 1st round? (Mainly for the Western Teams)

We will look at the top 5 in the East and the top 8 out West

Eastern Conference

Boston ---->

Detroit ---->

Orlando ---->

Cleveland ---->

Toronto ---->

Western Conference

New Orleans ---->

LA Lakers ---->

Phoenix ---->

Utah ---->

San Antonio ---->

Dallas ---->

Houston ---->

Denver ---->

In the east it would either be Atlanta or Indiana w/ a healthy JO for any of the top teams.

Eastern Conference

Boston ----> Cavs
Detroit ----> idk i guess Atlanta for some reason i feel like Atlanta can hang with any team that doesn't have a center

Orlando ----> Detroit

Cleveland ----> Atlanta

Toronto ----> Cleveland

Western Conference

New Orleans ----> Houston

LA Lakers ----> Houston
Phoenix ----> Houston

Utah ----> Phx

San Antonio ----> Houston

Dallas ----> Houston

Houston ----> Utah

Denver ---->LA, Phx, or Houston

Houston is basically everyone's worst first round matchup, I see this as Yao's year where he just goes off in the playoffs. He is finally healthy, and he is going to be scary. I ignored regluar season records except for Boston's matchup because I think cleveland is a better defensive team than them, and if you play defense you can beat the Celtics. Houston is just a scary team for everyone except Utah, since I think Utah has the pieces to expose Yao on the perimeter, and Kyle Korver is a huge pick up to cover for Memhet not doing well.

la's worst matchup problem would be the spurs. everyone else wouldn't stand out over any other team.

first of all boston is NOT gonna play cleveland in round 1

i also think atlanta will be a tough out

i don't think toronto wants detroit either, or orlando and philadelphia

in the west anybody can still play anybody

i don't think dallas wants golden state anymore than they did last time, utah is the hornets worst matchup, and denver is the easiest first round opponent for the hornets

Here's how I see things...

Detroit and Boston are in either 1 or 2 seeds in the East...

Worst possible matchup for either team would be a Wizards team that finally has a healthy Butler and Arenas. That's the worst matchup for whoever gets the 3 seed too, wether its Orlando, Cleveland, or Toronto.

The 4/5 matchup will be two of Orlando, Clevleand, or Toronto.

I think the worst matchup for Orlando or Toronto is Cleveland due to Lebron. The worst matchup for Cleveland would probably be Toronto.

In the West I think all the teams are so close any team could play any team.

The worst matchup for all 7 teams would be San Antonio because of their experience. The worst matchup for San Antonio would be Phoenix.

I think that answers everything.

Spurs ain't really that scary anymore. If I was the Lakers, I would avoid facing the Suns in the first round. (Even though it mostly likely won't happen) Shaq is still scary when healthy or when he's motivated especially in the playoffs + Amare is a beast.

I'm gonna do it realistically..so obviously Boston and Detroit are going to be 1 and 2, so they can only face the 7th and 8th seed..

Eastern Conference

Boston ----> NJ with a healthy team and a motivated Carter

Detroit ---->NJ with a healthy team and a motivated Carter

Orlando ----> Toronto..they seem to beat them often..

Cleveland ----> Washington with a healthy Arenas and Butler

Toronto ----> Lebron

Western Conference

New Orleans ----> Utah(seem to play them well all of the time)

LA Lakers ----> if I had to pick, Denver(I like the matchups inside with Camby/Nene/Martin) and SA..

Phoenix ----> San Antonio(obviously)

Utah ----> San Antonio(based on recent history, better with Korver though), LA(inside matchup is bad for Utah in this series)..

San Antonio ----> Houston, LA(just because they're the best competition)

Dallas ----> Golden State(obviously), SA(Kidd defending Parker now, and now Diop to defend Duncan), LA

Houston ----> T-Mac's first round record..

Denver ----> San Antonio

denver? the lakers own denver even without bynum or gasol. other than the warriors who aren't in the playoffs at the moment, denver is probably their best matchup.

I think Denver matches up well with LA just looking at the positions if Nene was healthy..I like Nene's strength against Gasol and Camby in the post, also with Martin..I realize LA usually dominates them, and obviously the main problem would be guarding Kobe, so it would depend on what Melo and Iverson do offensively..I'm not saying they would beat them, but like I said, IF I HAD TO PICK one it would be them..I haven't really seen a team that gives the Lakers trouble so far..LA is most likely going to play Denver, Golden State or Houston, and I'd pick Denver to potentially give them a problem out of those teams, if Nene is healthy..

For the Celtics, I think a healthy Washington team would be a great matchup. We beat them twice in a row (on back to back nights) without Arenas, so it's possible we could make it an interesting series. Not saying we'd win or anything like that, because they're a top 3 team and we're not even close, but I think we match up favorably, since Haywood guards Garnett very well, Butler and Pierce cancel each other out, and Stevenson does a good job on Allen.

Utah's worst matchup is still the Spurs, until proven otherwise. They just seem to have our number...they just work Duncan inside on offence, our bigs can't handle him, so we bring Kirilenko in on "help" D, and then Ginobili destroys us.

I don't think Utah's bigs have been THAT bad vs. Timmy..Okur looked pretty good guarding him for stretches during the playoffs last year..it's more Ginobili that kills the Jazz, or at least it seems like that..Deron Williams scared me last year though, we had nobody to guard him at all, and still don't..Duncan was great defensively vs. the Jazz in the playoffs last year though..

Orlando can beat anyone on the road :nod: but not at home, anyway our worse matchup is probably detroit but since the question is first round match up its probably a toss up between Toronto, and Cleveland, then again I am not sure how we would do against a healthy Wizards team.
