...while what you say here is true, there is a bit more to this story...
Magloire literally got fat and happy after his big pay-day...he stopped training and put on a ton of weight that made him completely immobile and took away all his nimbleness and creativity around the basket...
But, this season was his FA year, and Magloire dedicated himself to getting into shape...he came into Nets camp in the best shape of his life and really looked like he was going to have a big season for the Nets...
The problem he had in NJ had little to do with his playing ability and more to do with the players in front of him. Nenad Kristic was already slated to be the starter and by the time Krstic got the plug pulled on him the team was already struggling and looking at Sean Williams and Josh Boone because of their upside and their current level of play...
Now, Magloire might be the kind of guy who will only play hard for another contract, but that is exactly the situation he is in...he NEEDS to play well this year to get paid again, so I think the situation is perfect...
It's not that he played poorly this year, its just that he didn't get into the rotation...Magloire isn't spectacular, but he's solid and could add something to this Celtics team....he is MUCH, MUCH better than the current version of Scott Pollard...Magloire is in shape and motivated to get paid...he will perform in the minutes given to him I believe...
This team could really use a big of Magloire's skill level...he is probably the most talented big man the team could hope to acquire this season...I am not an advocate for re-signing him after this year, but to finish up this season? Absolutely...

And if the coach who had him in his dog house is Lawrence Frank, I really don't care who played in front of him. He was signed to $4.0M for a reason.

But he also needs to play much in order to get paid, not just 5 minutes a game, and it is up in the air how much he would get here. He should get 15 minutes a night, but we don't know to what extent the C's want him and how Doc would use him. I would stop playing small ball and go with The Big Cat as a constant backup.
Another question is what Magloire thinks of the C's. Sure, he might win a ring, but he wants playing time and I really don't know what he thinks of 15 minutes a night, which is even a long shot as of now. Money won't be an issue, as he has his $4.0M from New Jersey locked up already.

Simply look at Magloire's stats, he is a better player then Perk. He also has an all star game to his credit. Perk can't even dream about that. I haven't seen him play a lot, but I've seen Perk play his whole career and he only has the center spot by default.

I hear you bro, but i'm not convinced he wouldn't contribute to the team's frontcourt defense...he looked great in pre-season, more mobile than he's been in 4 years...and there is a motivation for him to play well...
...I can't guarantee anything, but I can state that Scott Pollard is almost worthless at this point and I don't know if there will be a better talent available in the frontcourt than Magloire, warts and all...
...we're talking about a minimum salary rental here...not like i'm advocating for a 5 year deal...

I agree. We are not going to find anyone better than Magloire at this point and he's basically falling into the team's lap. Besides, he'll show more ability than some folks are giving him credit for, particularly along side KG. Pollard has been good for laughs, but he's not been healthy enough to rely upon.

I'm with bill here.
Magloire has looked better this year, but Boone and Williams have gotten the nod this year for more minutes in the rotation. If Magloire can come in and provide a big body, rebounding and a touch of defense then what loss is there? The only concern I have is his impact on chemistry. Bill might be able to fill in on this one, but I'm thinking it would be minimal in this situation.

You are wrong.
This season he's had an off year, but he was productive in Milwaukee and Portland.
05-06 (with Milwaukee)
82 games
30.1 mpg
9.2 ppg
9.5 rpg
06-07 (with Portland)
81 games
21.0 mpg
6.5 ppg
6.1 rpg
Just because he wasn't an allstar caliber player doesn't mean he has been awful. The numbers he put up with the Bucks and the Blazers speak for themselves, Magloire was still a very productive center his previous two seasons before joiing the Nets.

It's been pointed out that Dallas is just as good a landing place for Magloire as Boston.
But I hope we get him, for the reasons previously stated. At center more than anywhere else you want to have multiple serviceable players, and with Pollard perennially hurt and Perkins not happening to be an iron man (nor foul-trouble-proof), we're short -- literally and figuratively.

I really hope we are planning to contact The Big Cat.
An NBA source said the Celtics have contacted representatives for waived guards Brent Barry and Flip Murray. Although the source said the Celtics have some interest in recently waived center Jamaal Magloire, they have yet to contact his representatives.
Murray and Magloire become unrestricted free agents, assuming they clear waivers, Tuesday at 6 p.m.
I really hope we are planning to contact The Big Cat.

Well I can't pretend to have seen him this year, but if it went thorugh man would I have reservations.
Speaking of big men you have to get the people at dftexp to move Thabeet way up in your mock and do a serious write up on him. He is improving at an astronomical rate and having him at 22 makes it look like the site is dropping the ball. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't a top 5 pick. I think he could even end up being the number one or two pick. #22 is way too low though.

I think picking up Magloire makes little or no sence!.....
Magloire would be as useless as tits on a boar hog on a Doc River's coached team... Doc would never use him!...Even when Doc has a healthy Perkins at his disposal, he hardly uses Perk when it matters....just look how we have been finishing games of late?
