Lack of Post Play Will Hurt Our Chances of Winning a Title

Losing 3 in a row hurts. But I'm not too worried about losses in the regular season.

We have to realize that the playoffs are a different type of game. It's more of a half court game. Tonight's game against the Suns was like a playoff type game.

What concerns me going forward is the lack of a post offensive player. We had a great one in Jefferson, but he's gone. What we are left with is a jump shooting team.

Pierce, Ray, KG, House, and Posey are very good outside shooters. But you can't count on the jumpers falling every game as evident in tonight's game.

Our big 3 is composed of mainly perimeter shooters. Same goes for House and Posey. KG is our most effective low post player, but he plays more outside than inside. Powe and Davis aren't tall enough to be effective against the bigger players on a regular basis. Perkins is useless in the post.

I just don't see how we can win it all this season without a low post presence. IMO, Ainge has to try really hard to move down in the draft and get a player like Brooke Lopez.

With all due respect to Adrian Dantley and Mark Aguirre, they weren't classic big man post scorers, so again I say Detroit won without much post scoring.

It depends who we play. Cleveland and Detroit have no post players. I also think come playoff time, you will see KG down there a bit more.

While Al does not pass well out of the double team which leads to forced shots and turnovers. What the Celtics should look to do is have the open man cut to the basket more and spot up less as the playoffs draw near.

Garnett, Pierce, Powe to an extent, and Perkins can all post up. We just don't see it in our offense enough. Maybe we will in the playoffs.
I think the biggest problem is the big three and their need to have the ball in their hands. This takes away from Rondo on the offensive end with his ability to get to the rim or dish it out for an open jumper. When Garnett was out he played at a higher level on offense with the ball in his hands more.
Doc needs to find a way to adjust his offense so Rondo can further develop himself as an offensive player. He is already a defensive stud who is being held back by our big three on the offensive end.
My adjustment idea would be to bring Pierce off the bench and start Posey. Yea, you may think I'm crazy, but Posey is a three point shooter who opens the lane up for Rondo to do his thing more so than Pierce. Allen would get better looks getting the ball from Rondo also. Pierce is a player who is better taking his guy off the dribble one on one. He can actually be more of the all-star Pierce playing with Rondo off the floor. He will still get his minutes, but in a different way.
The only other thing would be to bring R.Allen off the bench, but this creates more of a problem. Do you really want T.Allen and Pierce taking a lot of threes? I'd rather see Pierce and TA take their guys off the drive with Pierce taking his elbow jumpers and TA going all the way to the hole with House camping at the three point line and Powe and Baby crashing the boards.
Bottom line is we have an all-star in the making who is strapped down by three all-stars who are keeping him back from taking off. They can all benefit from a minor change. The three have talked about sacrafice, but when they did they didn't know about Rondo at the time. Would they sacrafice more to become a better team?

Yeah, this is true, but I understand his point about high percentage basketball. We might not have a pure post scorer, but we do have guys that can score in the paint. That's why Rondo is so key. If he keeps threatening in the paint like Tony Parker, I think we can win a championship. Pierce is also on that list.

Eh we just have to play better. And I'm starting to get a little ticked by how few fouls gets called in KG's favor. He was getting absolutely hammered against the Suns yesterday. I don't know how he makes some of those baskets considering the amt of contact he absorbs.

It is really odd that a superstar gets so few calls, and it definitely wasn't just a one game thing, it's been going on all year for him.

I noticed he doesn't complain about the calls and I can admire that, but I'm starting to wonder if he'd get more calls if he was always whining to the officials when he doesn't get a call his way?

Cassell as your backup PG would add a additional post option. Especially when your small and can invert your forwards to the perimeter
