Even though Shaq will score much less then Shawn Marion,i see him having more impact and giving them a better chance in the playoffs because he can defend the post 1 on 1. His pick and roll defense might be his weakness, but he can defend someone like Duncan and Yao Ming 1 on 1.
He isnt going to shut them down, but he can defend them and make it difficult on them without the Suns having to triple team the post like in the past. Usually they have to double Tim Duncan.
In crunch time, they dont have to double team the post anymore which would leave Gionobli and the rest of the Spurs shooters wide open when Duncan kicked out.

While Boston wasn't at regular form with Ray and Pierce being off, KG coming off a significant injury, not at usual shape, and being in foul trouble - this was still a quality win for the Suns.
Shaq with a Ben Wallace-style game tonight, was solid
Amare played pretty well overall, though wasn't much on the boards
Boston really showed PG issues tonight - they must be hoping Cassell or Lue get bought out. Don't think Lue's been with the Kings.

Shaq also did a good job on KG 1 on 1. Its hard to post up a 340 pound guy who slides his feet surprisingly well with his low post defense.
All the Suns need from Shaq is 10 points 10 rebounds and clogg up the paint on defense when they face bigger teams.
Just be a big body on Duncan and force him to take 12 to 14 footers, instead of 3 footers like Duncan usually gets against the Suns.
Lakers are a different story because you got Bynum, Gasol and Lamar. Thats a big frontline

That's the way to go when a big man got old, looked at how well Rill Russell, Chamberlain, Jabber, Walton excels on that role. Just play good post defense, get rebound, score some points occasionally and your team will compete.

Indeed. But I want to see it over time against all kinds of teams, in the playoffs, and Shaq staying healthy. Doesn't just go for this season, either, of course.
I still can't really be sold on Shaq in the extended-sense. Self-wise, has been fine so far, no doubt.
Even so, I don't think Shaq going okay in this role will be enough to win the west or the title, because of the Suns overall team make-up in terms of their ability, reliance, coaching, and depth. Definitely given a better chance than before, though.

Cavs did that the last time they played the Wiz. They were horribly undermanned last night though. No Wally, No Ben, No Sasha, No Boobie, No Varejao, No Joe Smith and No Delonte. The team actually started Damon and Snow 2 players that weren't even getting in games until the injuries started

As true as that is, you still had your best and 2nd best player. Washington didn't have either. Yes, you played mainly D-leaguers, but I think most people would take their number 1 player, number 2 player and a bunch of D-leaguers over a team missing their best and 2nd best players.

it's not that the Wiz didn't almost beat the Cavs it's that Cavs fans felt that the Cavs would lose this game anyway. Z was basically the only big man on the team. All the Wiz needed to do was go inside every time and eventually (especially the way that fouls were being called) they would have fouled out Z. Sure the Wiz were missing their best players (although when one has been out as long as Arenas they are actually responsible to have made some type of adjustment by now) but to ignore that the Cavs were missing their entire team except Z and Bron still says something.

thats just the thing. No1 is ignoring it. Every1 is tire of hearing about it, especially when the team you were playing were missing TWO ALLSTARS. Its not that impressive sheesh. maybe if it was detroit boston orlando, spurs with a healthy roster. But it wasnt it was a banged up wiz team whos coach wasnt smart enough to just dump it inside

The Wiz big guys did take 60% of their shots so to say that they didn't get it to them is a bit of a incorrect statement. But frankly that's not just on the coach. That's on the players to take advantage of the fact that they had all their big men and the Cavs just had Z.
