Do we add a free agent for the playoffs?

Post#1 » by phillyborn_jacksonite » Sat Feb 23, 2008 12:10 am

i know i know..we are rebuilding but let me give you a what if....

Brent barry signs with us for a 1 year deal for 7 mil prorated for the rest of the season. This i believe will give him an 83,333 game check for the last 30 games. i only picked that number b/c its more than Van Horn will get for not even playing and it might be enticing to guy who might be bitter at his old team, and would like a change of scenerey(eastern conference)

So we bring him on for our playoff push with the sole purpose of getting to the second round of the playoffs and for the benefit of our youngings. Put willie on the bench and start Brent. Thad continues to start then willie and Lou come off the bench with reggie, then bury Carney while his stock is relatively high but you can bring him in for our turbo pressing fastbreak when we need a spark. I think this gets us a 5th or 6th seed and perhaps a matchup with Toronto or Orlando. with him at SG we are big. Plus he is a better defender than willie and beleive it or not more athletic IMO.

its not going to happen obviously, but what if... would you do it...it only costs us cash....and helps give our young guys more playoff experience

so what do you think free agent or stand pat....if a free agent any other ideas?

i say no to magloire.

sixercan - sorry for starting a new thread. I didnt get any reponse in the playoff thread so started new one with more general topic to get everones opinion-removed the bird rights reason though thanks for the link

Brent is going to sign with one of the top teams in the West. If we play like we did out of the break and tonight there will be no playoffs.

I think no FA (not Barry, Magloire, etc) who has something to offer and want to win a championship would sign with the Sixers. Unfortunately, the perception of this team is that this is a team in rebuild mode even though, thanks to the play of Miller, this team could be as high as the 7th seed in the playoffs. The Sixers are considered playoff fodder.

A scrub won't make this team better.

Barry would be a great addition.. He is still a good player and can shoot very well from beyond.

Flip Murray wouldn't be a bad addition here either.
