I don't think Phoenix and Dallas are bad matchups for each other at all. They've always been pretty evenly matched, and I can safely assume that both teams' fans aren't scared of the other team.

I like how half the thread ignored the round 1 thing and are putting Boston, Detroit for everybody 3-6

Eastern Conference
Boston ----> There aren't really many bad matchups Boston could be looking at as they may face a sub .500 team. If I had to choose I'd say Atlanta. They now have a superior point guard and a surplus of athleticism on the wings that could possibly bother an older Boston team.
Detroit ----> Once again they shouldn't have too many problems. For my recollection they struggle with superstar wings, see Lebron's ECF. I'll go with New Jersey here. Of course that would require Vince to play inspiring basketball...............
Orlando ----> They would struggle against a team that could expose their weak backcourt. I'll go with The Wizards, who could pose bigger matchup problems if Gilbert Returns.
Cleveland ----> We'll assume they don't slip from their current position and end up playing a top team. I'd probably go with Washington here. Cleveland doesn't have the scoring up front to really expose Washington's interior D. They also have a couple of lanky defensive fowards to throw at Lebron. Gilbert is once again a wildcard in this matchup.
Toronto ----> I'm not too sure on the history of these teams but I feel Cleveland would give Toronto problems. Looking at Toronto's roster they have no one to really throw at Lebron. The Cavs are also a proven defensive team who could potentially disrupt the jumpshooting offense of Toronto.
Western Conference
Note: As the Western Conference race is so tight, I'll just mix and match any possible matchup.
New Orleans ----> They don't matchup terribly with anyone out West IMO. If I had to pick a team I'd go with Denver. Iverson may not be able to stop Paul but he has the ability to neutralise the matchup. Also Denver's superior front court depth could trouble the young David West. The Hornet don't have anyone to match up with Melo, perhaps Bonzi. I still feel that Camby is superior to Chandler.
LA Lakers ----> Call me crazy but I'm gonna go with Houston. Yao is still possibly the best centre in the game even with LA's freakish talent up front. They also have backups like Mutombo and Landry to bother the Lakers front court. If T-Mac is motivated and healthy. he may actually match up decently with Kobe... but that's a huge if. Also LA doesnt have the point guard play to expose Houston's potential problems at that position.
Phoenix ----> It's obviously San Antonio here. They have a distinct mental edge over Phoenix. Phx also traded away their only player who could attempt to guard Parker. Shaq is still a quality player but won't demand the double teams from the past. Amare has struggled with SA since his series in 05, mostly because he can't stop himself from fouling Duncan. Essentially Duncan will put either Shaq or Amare in serious foul trouble, if the past is any indication. Also the Spurs defense does a good job against Steve Nash.
Utah ----> It's the LA Lakers for me. Compared to the other Western conference contenders Utah is particularly weak at 2 guard, which isnt exactly what you'd like when facing Kobe. Also Boozer and Okur would hope for a draw at best against Bynum and Gasol.
San Antonio ----> New Orleans. They can match most of what the Spurs can do. Except they're younger, probably hungrier and they have better rebounding upfront.
Dallas ----> Golden State. If anything the Kidd trade made them more suseptible to the Golden State small ball.
Houston ----> New Orleans. Chris Paul will slaughter whoever takes him and the Hornets have a lot of mobility up front to give Yao problems.
Denver ----> SA. They slow the game down to a crawl and have the patience to slowly break down the Nugs.

actually Yao pretty much destroys NOH b/c they don't really have a legit center that can guard him. In our first game we should of won but BARELY lost due to bad last 2 plays and the last game we pretty much swept them.
I'm not saying we're better than NOH but if they face us in the playoffs, it's not going to be like NBA finals 07 spurs vs cavs.

Are you kidding me? I would love the Lakers to play the Rockets in the first round, I liked our chances with Kobe by himself with Kwame & Smush, but now with Fisher, Gasol and Bynum! The Rockets stand no chance against us.the southern dandy wrote:LA Lakers ----> Call me crazy but I'm gonna go with Houston.
