Well when draft day came, I though Paul should have been the first pick, but I could understand they're need for a quality center, and they get a pretty good one in Bogut, but I could not see what was so special about Marvin Williams to make it over the best player in draft, or atleast that's what I felt at the time, and this year he's been the best player in that draft.

agreed. Kidd wanted to play for a contender so he gets to go to Dallas and the Nets get their PG for the future with Devin Harris.

Funny thing is, I could see Portland being better than Dallas by as early as next year, and Dallas doesn't look like a contender this year either with LA, Pho, SAS all clearly ahead of them, and NOH, HOU, UTA and DEN on the same level.

I believe this was before the Portland-Dallas-New Jersey three way talk.

That's easy to say now, but no one ever seriously thought that Paul should go #1 that year. Bogut was a lock to go #1 from the day the lotto balls dropped... Even before that. Then Marvin was always considered the no-brainer #2 choice that summer. The guy was 6-9, young and athletic. Plus, he was on a team that had just won the National Championship iirc. The only reason anyone suggested Paul or Williams might go #2 is because the Hawks were in such desperate need of a PG and that they had picked SF/PF's for the past few drafts.

Yep. This is probably why Portland was involved in the 3 way talk to begin with.

I doubt it. He'd have to win the title this or next year to do it. And this year, its pretty impossible, just because of the glut of talent in the west. Next year, Oden would have to be a beast right off the bat in order to do it. I think Kidd is just fine in Dallas.
