Manu putting up superstar numbers

Post#1 » by Magz50 » Sun Feb 24, 2008 4:37 am

Manu's last 5 games:

30 p 12 as 6 rebs 1 stl 55%fg 4-8 3pt
44 p 3as 4 rbs 1 stl 72%fg 7-9 3pt
18 p 4rbs 3as 1 blk 50%fg 1-4 3pt
46p 8as 5rbs 3stls 1 blk 75% fg 8-11 3pt
34p 12rbs 6as 2stls 59%fg 6-12 3pt

Those are superstar numbers.

That's 34.4 points @ 62.2%FG 59%3pt 6.6 as 6.2 rebs 1.2 stls a game in 36.6 minutes

That's pretty damn sick and deserves some recognition. :clap: :clap:

Manu is a poor man's Kobe if you ask me. And that's not an insult at all. I'm saying Manu can do everything and score from everywhere and has a sweet jumper.

Let me just state this thread has zero to do with Kobe or Lebron before it gets turned into a pissing match. I'm just saying Manu deserves some recognition for the way he's been playing lately, if it was McGrady, Kobe or Lebron doing it there'd be 100 threads already on the main.

Manu is amazing.

A lot of people say that the spurs are Duncan's team,but Manu should get some recognition as well.

Manu is a max contract quality player and he has been for years. So is Tony Parker, and so is Tim Duncan. That core is the reason the Spurs have been so good. For years people said, blah blah blah it's all Duncan. It wasn't and it never was. It's a combination of how great all three of them are. Also how well they play together.

Guys who really know basketball know that Manu is an elite player in this league. He, is unselfish to a fault, and he doesn't play big minutes which throw his stats off. Most guys would whine, he doesn't care.

If you look at PER numbers for the guy over the last few years, he's tops in the league easily. As far as his impact on the game, all you gotta do is watch him. He doesn't get recognition because he plays on the Spurs, and his game isn't quite "pretty".

In 13 games as a starter, he has put up 25.9, 5.7 and 6.3 on tremendous efficiency. That's not to say he is producing particularly better, he is just playing more minutes.

Manu is the Spurs' best player in the last three minutes of a game. He has been that for a while. The reason why SA to me is still the favorite to win it all is because they have someone like Manu who can elevate his game to another level in the last few minutes of a close game.

Manu is an all league player IMO. Not surprised to see him put up a stretch like this.

manu has been starting and playing heavy minutes this year because of the injury problems the spurs have had. no spurs fan should be surprised by his spike in production has they are on the mark of his per for the past couple years.

what many fans may not notice is manu has only averageed 27 minutes per game for the past couple years because of team depth. ginobili has earned high respect from guys like kobe evident of kobe running to help ginobili up before any of his own teammates.

also ginobilis per 48 in scoring is only behind kobe and lebron last time i checked. at this point its arguable which would be a bigger hit, losing manu or losing our finals mvp parker.
Manu Ginobili:

* Italian League Championship: 2001
* Italian Cup: 2001, 2002
* Euroleague: 2001
* Americas Championship: 2001
* NBA Championship: 2003, 2005, 2007
* Summer Olympic Games gold medal: 2004

He is behind Amare and Carmelo as well, but per possession it is probably close, since he plays in a slower offense.

You used to be able to sag off him and play him to drive, which was tough enough. Now that he's dropping in jumpers from all over, he's pretty much unguardable. He is a scary, scary player to match up with. About all you can hope for is that he has one of his bizarro games where he's tossing the ball all over the court. Which doesn't happen nearly as much as it used to.

Ginobili's low minutes don't have anything to do with San Antonio's depth. Rather, it's a concerted effort by Popovich to keep him fresh and healthy for the playoffs. With his style, there's no way he'd last a full season playing 40 minutes a game.
