kg is not a punk. He is a tremendous player and a tremendously intense competitor. he might be my favorite ever non-sun player.
i loved watching amare stand up to him and when kg plays the suns he is mortal enemy #1. but threads like this invite the 10 year old roaches from LA and make this board look stupid.
I take it back ...... Garnett is a punk....

That lefthanded putback dunk Amare had was terrific! I don't really see any big man dunking with their offhand these days.
KG was going a bit too far with the theatrics but it's nice when your opponent isn't too nice because that gives the other team something to play for.
I actually think it backfires on your because you rile up the other team.

TOTALLY AGREE
If everyone played with as much passion and intensity as KG the league would be better off, cos clowns like Curry would be run into the ground so they'd have to get their act together

just before the end of last season, i had a free night and thought i'd head down to the Key to watch KG and the wolves play the sonics. found myself a 2nd row seat and spent the entire game watching KG and KG only. i was so impressed with him as a player that night. the wolves played well but lost on a late run by the supes.
i remember watching him on the bench resting with his horrible teammates and seeing them laughing and goofing off while KG was intensely into every play on both ends of the court. that meaningless late season game between two non playoff teams meant everything to him and if this was true of more guys, the NBA would be a better league.
KG is a great asset to the NBA.

I don't think people really understand just how much of a beast KG is, especially mentally. I mean, he's in kill-mode for 48 minutes. Now I'll be honest and say that he's been yelling, screaming and trash-talking too much to my liking, but that's who he is I guess. And more than that, its focused intensity along with an extremely high basketball IQ. I don't know that you can learn that or imitate it. You know, guys like Artest and Rasheed Wallace have the competitive fire and IQ with great basketball skills, but have trouble keeping their emotions in check. Amare has the competitive drive, but not the IQ and lack of focus and intensity sometimes. The focus will hopefully come with more maturity and being battle tested. The intensity seems to come and go depending on the game, the opponent, the situation at that time (it's been known that Amare does take games off for whatever reason). And then the IQ may only be able to go so high.
Amare will never be KG IMO, even pre-surgery Amare wouldn't have surpassed KG skills-wise or IQ-wise. Amare is an incredible athlete still learning how to play basketball, you really can't start late on fundamentals. He can work on his skills, but KG is just a natrual basketball player with great fundamentals and instincts for the game. It's hard for Amare to match those.
But I still wouldn't trade him for KG.

The 2005-06 Suns will always have a special place in my heart

He didn't really smack Amare's hand away
Amare reached down 2 pick Garnett up, then while Amare was liftin him up KG purposefully let go of his hand, which nearly made STAT trip over.
That sequence actually made me laugh, kinda reminded of playin b-ball in my Junior High-school days

Mad Mike wrote:this is the most red I've seen in a thread. Why don't the mods just lock this because calling another team player a punk is gonna bring fans who will defend kg and call the suns bunch of punks.
i think the thread has merit, LOT'S of KG fans on the Suns board and you can see people defending both. The red is because of name calling etc, if people can't discuss the PLAYER and resort to personal insults then it will be locked.

Garnett is a warrior just like Zo for the Heat. They play with emotion, heart and I wish more people were like them. They leave it all out there on the court every night.
If you get int a one on one battle with them you will get a few elbows, mean glares, scowls, roars and all of that.
These guys are not punks, they are NBA warriors.
