Acie Law's Injury Woes

Post#1 » by Illuminati » Fri Feb 22, 2008 12:36 pm

The Hawks' troubles at point guard were supposed to be solved with the acquisition of Mike Bibby.
They're not. Far from it.
While his teammates worked out in Sacramento on Thursday, Acie Law IV ran on a treadmill. Law sprained his right wrist late in the third quarter of Wednesday's loss to the Kings. It's the third time this season he has injured the wrist to some degree.
He didn't break it, confirmed by the results of an MRI exam, which was one of the initial concerns late Wednesday. But his availability for today's game against Golden State is in serious doubt.
Law's injury puts the Hawks into an even deeper point guard quandary with Bibby struggling with a right heel injury, sustained in his first game in a Hawks uniform. Speedy Claxton, the only other point guard on the roster, is in Atlanta doing rehab after knee surgery.
"We're in a tough, tough situation right now," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said as Bibby sat on a treatment table on the training room while the rest of the team went through practice. "We'll have to figure out some ways to get through this stretch, because right now we've just got guys struggling with these injuries."
The point guard ranks were so depleted Thursday that the Hawks had to forgo their normal practice for a session of shooting drills.

I am glad that people have stopped referring to Salim as an option at PG

10-day contracts needed right now. PG and C. Now, more than ever.

I don't think many people saw him as one to begin with, but he may become one if these injuries keep up.

Point guard Acie Law IV will miss the final three games of the Hawks' five-game Western Conference road trip with a sprained right wrist he suffered in the third quarter of Wednesday's loss in Sacramento.

He missed Friday's win over Golden State and Saturday's game against the Utah Jazz at Energy Solutions Arena. He was scheduled to part with the Hawks today to see a hand specialist in Los Angeles while the team traveled to San Antonio for Monday's trip finale against the Spurs.

Law said before Saturday's game that he is still feeling some pain in that wrist and that his trip is strictly to get a specialist's opinion.

I know a lot of people were happy to hear that Acie's hand wasn't broken. However i had the same injury that he has now and it took forever to heal. Breaks can frequently heal much faster than sprains.

My guess is that it will be a problem for the rest of the season. Any time he gets knocked down it will aggravate that injury. Even if it isn't a hard blow to the wrist it will still hurt.

Forunately IV is a tough kid. He even stayed in the game for a few minutes after he hurt that wrist (and drained two free throws). I think he will be able to play through this.

Hawks still wating prognosis on Law's wrist

Hawks coach Mike Woodson was still waiting to hear about rookie point guard Acie Law IV's visit to see a hand specialist in Los Angeles.

Law missed Monday's game against San Antonio at AT&T Center and could miss more time with the sprained right wrist he sustained in Wednesday's loss to Sacramento, depending on the word from the doctor.

"We don't know anything yet," Woodson said before the game. "As soon as we hear from the doctor we can make our adjustments accordingly. But until then, we have to get out there and go to work without him."

Law had two of his better outings of the season before injuring his wrist driving to the basket against the Kings. He had 13 points in a loss to Charlotte before the All-Star break and then had 16 points, three assists and three steals in a loss to the Lakers.

He was on his way to another strong showing against the Kings, he had seven points in just 16 minutes of action, before hitting the floor on that drive.

"That's the tough part right now for Acie," Woodson said. "Every time it seems like he's getting into a good rhythm he seems to get hurt."

Law missed 12 games earlier this season with a sprained ankle and two more with a sprained wrist.
