Renouncing Then Signing

Post#1 » by DanTown8587 » Fri Feb 22, 2008 8:22 am

The Bulls made a blockbuster deal today, but I was wondering what affects it has on their cap. As of right now, they have 49,371,173 in salary commitments to guys next year, excluding Deng and Gordon. So if they renounce Gordon and get that hold off, what options does that open up besides making Gordon a RFA?

They would have to renounce Bird rights on BOTH Deng and Gordon to have any spendable cap room. Ain't gonna happen.

To me the most likely scenario this summer is that they re-sign Deng to a hefty deal, and use Gordon in a sign-and-trade to try to bring in more size.

Actually the Bulls have 9 guaranteed deals for $48,659,656

The 10th deal (JamesOn Curry, $711,517) is non-guaranteed
