This is what shaq does. Every time he goes to a new team that team and team's best player(s) is the best he's ever been on/played with. Stop taking him seriously.

shaq is telling the truth. Take shaq off the teams he has played for and they are not championship contendors.

The suns still are.

without the Shaq trade and the other trades happening I don't see the Suns as a contender.

The Suns a contender?

How many championships have they won?

Oh yeah, NONE.

with a frontcourt of diaw/amare and not much else? they are not title contenders without shaq.

I disagree

Defense? Lacking. Also not proven at a playoff-level. Certainly not title contending-level.

Rebounding? Bad.

Diaw being unreliable and too much of a wildcard (differing too much and playing too soft (meaning aggressiveness) ).

A flexible offense? Rely too much on making jumpshots and getting easy baskets (still do and will, just to a lesser extent than before, Shaq's not going to be a significant scorer to change this and add another scoring dimension).

A well-rounded/solid bench? Barbosa, Diaw, Johnson, Skinner, Marks, Strawberry, Tucker - not enough there. Rotations shrink in the playoffs, but having an above-average bench is still needed.

Back-up PG? Not there. Barbosa's an undersized off-guard scorer with limited PG skill, trying to play PG. Hill and Diaw can do what they do with facilitating, but can't be relied on as the main point-players after Nash. I'd expect if somebody is bought out they'll pick him up, or really try to.

Small-guard defender? None, really. Strawberry will be the answer for this in a year or two, though. Maybe even somebody else will be there.

Wing-defender after Hill and Bell? Not there, unless Linton Johnson sticks and is in the rotation. Putting even more responsibility on Grant Hill than before is a lot to ask. He's stayed healthy so far, but that health concern is still looming.

No legit all-star caliber wing-player to take attention away from Nash so he doesn't get contained enough over a playoff series. Don't quite think Hill fits this, as solid as he's been.

good points Ballings7 except the idea was to take shaq off those teams so diaw isn't on the bench, he's starting at pf. so your grim predictions are actually worse.

Ah, yeah, weakens the bench and creates increased uncertainity for D'Antoni with Diaw.

His Laker teams were actually contending. Supporting cast are only graded when they show up in the finals. It would premature to letter better supporting cast members until those in question have been tot he dance.

Yeah but Shaq made all of those players better in the finals. If you put the Shaq who played for the Lakers on this current Suns team, they would be better then those Laker teams.
This Suns team is more top heavy and those Lakers teams were ten deep. But when it comes down to the playoffs, and teams only use a 7 or 8 man rotation, this Suns team would definitely be able to take those Laker teams to a game 7 and win it.

A lot of people are forgetting that Shaq is more than just a basketball player...he's an entertainer. I actually think Shaq is (somewhat of) a genius because anytime he makes these claims to the media it gets attention AND his teammates always seem to respond accordingly. Saying Amare Stoudamire is the best big in the NBA is going to force/motivate Amare to back up Shaq's words, and my guess is that Amare will do just that (not saying Amare is going to actually play like the best big in the league, but he's most likely going to go balls out from here on).

If the Suns are the best team he's ever played on, then I guess the current Lakers are better than any team he has ever played on
