dwight hasnt really developed any real offensive moves. he relies almost 100% on athleticism. and he is in the prime of his athleticism. so until he can develop something in the post...bill is right

Shaq doesn't have a problem with his weight; he hasn't had a problem with his weight in over half a decade. He's just a big guy naturally and he has a huge amount of muscle mass.

Shaq's body type is preferable to Dwight's because he's got a broader, stronger base than does Dwight.

But he's got a huge amount of muscle mass, he's over 35 years old, what else do you want? He's 324 or so right now and at about 12, 13 percent body fat. That's perfectly acceptable.

you trade broader stronger base for jumping ability? I wouldn't....

shaq in his prime had a broader base and was more 'dominant' (able to post people back down and dunk on them)...but I'd take a dwight who is quicker on his feet and able to jump/catch alley's while flying from the freethrow line...its more fun to watch..shaq was very fun to watch..but dwight is just as fun to watch.

I forget who it was on the lakers, but a few years ago he referred to one of their bench guys, during the playoffs, as the greatest mid-court inbounds passer of all-time. 3 weeks later when i stopped laughing i thought about the quote again, and laughed for another 3 weeks.

That's completely BS. You haven't seen Dwight play in at least 3 years.

Walton is funny and a little dotty. And I would guess he thinks Dwight is about 25. When he talks about how young some of the players on team USA are, he never mentions Dwight, but only guys who are older than Dwight. I was struck in the summer of 06 when he repeatedly called Chris Paul the youngest player on team USA while Dwight was actually the baby of the team.

I think Walton is antagonistic to get people talking and boost ratings. Which is true as we can see from the very creation of this thread.

I think Walton worded his statement incorrectly. From a physical standpoint Howard is in the prime of his career. Does anyone seem him getting any more athletic or stronger? The dude just won the dunk contest!!

Unless Dwight shows a complete inability to improve, which has already proven not to be the case, Dwight is a few years off the real prime of his career. His athleticism will always be his main weapon though.

i really think prime is different for every player of any sport, some players get into their best years after 10 years in the league and mature mentally, others just have their best years when they are Dwights age and they haven't got the wear and tear of 7 seasons behind them and are still good athletes.

Dwight doesn't actually have greater jumping ability than Shaq and Shaq's lower body was vastly more preferable to Dwight's because it helped him get and hold post position far more effectively. Dwight is now a little quicker than Shaq was at the same age but I would take Shaq's frame everytime.

??? Did you not watch the slam dunk contest? Shaq NEVER had that kind of leaping ability.

Also, Bill Walton is an idiot and needs to be smacked upside the head.

Actually he did. You need to have watched him at LSU and in Orlando but he used to get up astonishingly high when jumped. I saw the slam dunk contest, yes, but it doesn't actually change history.

EDIT: Incidentally, do remember that Dwight bent his legs upwards and so he looked a LOT higher than he actually was.

That was probably the funniest thing I've ever heard him say... I could be wrong but I believe that it was Robert Horry...
