Dwight Howard vs David Robinson (athletic prime)

Post#1 » by Ryoga Hibiki » Sun Feb 24, 2008 9:16 am

As asked in the Hakeem threas, who's the better athlete?
This is more tricky imo, because Robinson was more stiffy and was more similar to Howard as an athlete.
Imo they're very similar, Howard might be stronger and bigger (even if DRob got bigger as his career progressed) but Robinson was taller. I like more Howards spins, Robinson's never been as good as Hakeem or Shaq in that.

From the waist down rob is weak, waist and above = iron man, he had it all, above the rim player, can jumpshot from 18ft, quick center, if you look at one of his recent pics expecially the ASG 08 event pics with duncan, robinsons arms are still bigger than duncan.

and if you are basing your overall assumptions on drob base on one series, then your correct, but if you base it overall h2h matches, drob fairs well with them, its not lopsided as you think it is.
AJ:"I'm Western Conference," he said. "I'm Popovich. I'm for him, for Texas and for the Spurs."

DRob was just better

plus he was too intelligent and dignified to do that moronic and nauseatingly tacky superman thing.

How much lower does the NBA have to go before it's fully WWFed?

Dwight will never have the offensive touch of Robinson, or his natural shot-blocking instincts, but athletically, they are very similar.

Watch how easily D Rob runs the floor in this video, he was like a point guard with his athletic ability in the back court.

Scoring 71 points:

Robinson is definitely the better athlete. He could guard SF's out on the perimeter. Dwight can't do that.

lol Dwight could jump over a backboard before dunking and people on RealGM would still pick every older generation player over him in athleticism.

Robinson was the fastest player on his team for most years. Faster than Vernon Maxwell, a very fast player. The Spurs coach once told the team if Robinson could walk the length of the court on his hands then there'd be no practice. He did it. From an agility, speed, strength standpoint he may have been the most athletic player ever. He wasn't super instinctive about basketball like some though which was a limitation compared to guys like Hakeem. He was more athletic than Howard is or ever will be.

Becareful before all the Moderators come out and say that players from the 1940's would just be as athletic as today's players if they had the training.

Yeah there's no way that guys like DR J, Connie Hawkins, David Thompson, MJ could come anywhere close to todays athletes.

yeah back in the 90's there were people like dwight howard everywhere. his athletic ability would be overlooked in those days. hakeem and david robinson would make dwight howard look like yao ming. and of course hakeem and david robinson would just kill dwight howard in a dunk contest because they were all faster, could jumper higher and had the agility of a house cat. they could walk down the court with in a hand stand. they could guard point guards with ease and shut down shooting guards on the perimeter. hakeem and robinson are the real supermans.

Fastest. Robinson.
Jump higher. Howard.
Agility and quickness. Hakeem.
Strength. Shaq.

When you look at everything combined I'd go with Robinson or Hakeem.
