Pure vs Shoot-first
honestly who do you want starting, a pure PG like marcus or a shoot-first in harris.
dont you think devin would be best off the bench providing offense? a pure PG starting is smarter, what do yall think?

I agree. If Marcus plays like he did yesterday and/or his first start, he should start. As a play maker he can get the most out of the rest of the team and maximize the potential. He sets up guys like Boone and Sean who otherwise would be hard pressed to get a decent shot. Trouble is Frank seems unduly hard on the guy and might also feel the pressure to start Devin, who was basically assumed to be Kidd's replacement having been traded for him.

We need another scorer like Devin, one of the many reasons why we break down at the end of the game is bcoz we put too much pressure on VC and RJ and opposing teams know where the ball is going so at least with Devin comes another threat and it should break down the defense a bit. I remember when Kidd was still here, i used to wish that Kidd would score more bcoz if he could only score more we'd be having a better record. That wish is now Devin and he may not be Kidd but give him some time and he might be able to provide Kidd's numbers or at least close. I look at it this way... With Kidd we know what we were getting and with Devin for now is unknown, it could be better, but at least we know know he can score more and defend better.

Harris had a couple of scorers in Dallas.
Either way, I don't see the big deal with Harris being allowed to shoot. Teams need 3 players that scan score consistently.
Just fill in the rest of the roster with a defensive big man and a backup defensive wing player.

the term pure pg is overrated to be honest, all u need is just a player at the point who can just control the ball without making foolish mistakes, u dont need a dominant pg to win, it has been proven throughout nba history, which was the last pg to actually lead his team to a title?? hmm Magic Johnson but other than that the game has either been dominated by Bigs or The 2 guard spot
i would put harris in over marcus

With Harris he may move better without ball which may be a good for us. Im thinking with VC having ball and the motion offense the mismatch options for Harris to get to the hoop. Will give us a lot more options and cause defense to lay off RJ and VC.
Then Marcus coming in to run pick and roll sets. If frank can make sure that it is crisp and not sloppy then you know that we growing and becoming a better team.

We need Harris' speed, defense, and ability to penetrate the D with the first unit to create shots and overall get the team off to a good start. Plus, Harris is a starting PG from an NBA Finalist and he has been in playoff games against high level competition and has performed great, thus i see no reason why Marcus should start over him, aside from that we don't need starting PGs torching us within the first 5 mins of the game and we need to get off to fast starts!!

Good points on both sides. With Carter being a good playmaker we could use an offensive guy like devin who can move without the ball. On the other hand, carter could use the help on offense so that not all playmaking responsibility falls on his shoulders. Marcus could also create for VC to help him get going (as could harris, but hypothetically it seems marcus is better at that)
But thats not why I'm posting. I read an article by some guy who recommends that we move Devin for pick.

Harris has already proven he can PG a team to game 7 of the finals. That is important when you look at the fact that even great draft picks like Carmelo have never come close to doing that. Is Harris better then Carmelo? Of course not, but surrounded by the right players you can win with him. I doubt anyone who gets the top pick will be giving up Beasley and he is the only player I would even consider trading Harris for.
As far as Marcus, I like him and he has shown flashes of talent, but he has not proven he can. If you looked at stats and skill a guy like Jamaal Tinsley might look better then Harris, but what has he ever won? He sucked whenever we played him in the playoffs. Marcus may prove to be capable of winning (he was a winner in college), but the point I am trying to make is that Harris has already proven he can perform in the playoffs and that is a HUGE plus.
If anyone gets traded for a high draft pick I think it will be VC in a Ray Allen type of deal. I also think Marcus would be traded before Harris.

i agree mostly. I think the devin/melo comparision is a little unfair. The Mavs had a much better team until last year. Melo was single-handedly a winner in college. He's also very clutch and relatively efficient. Devin has been to the finals but was also on the team that got upset in the first round last year. In that case I dont know how much you can attribute either case to Devin.

I completely agree.
I'd keep RJ, I think he's another building block, but that's a minor quibble.
What/who would you dangle that package for?
I'd love to somehow clear enough cap room to bring in Elton Brand - a possible FA this summer, and build around a Harris - RJ - Brand trio.
That lineup would work if we kept Boki... maybe send out an Harris/RJ/Boki/Brand/Nenad starting 5, with S. Williams and Boone off the bench... although I'm sure one of them would go in a trade if we brought in Elton.
What did you have in mind?
