The Most A-Typical Athletes In The NBA
A-typical in terms of sleeping with thousands of women, getting high/drunk all of the time, selfish. Basically who are the truly good guys of the league

i think the exact opposite of kemp was meant with atypical...
well, i guess i gotta go with dirk. no flashy car with 25 inch rims and speakers, barely out partying, down to earth, being very selective with his advertising deals, all that while making a lot of money.
dwyane wade comes to my mind as well, married for a long time, no negative headlines, quite impressive for a guy being in the spotlight as much as he is.
chris kamas as well. in an interview with a german bball mag he answered "if u are moving, i'll be the one driving the truck with the furnitures" on the question about in what case he is different to the other nba players.

All time, it would be Manute Bol. Gave *ALL* his money to Sudanese charity. Close second would be Bill Bradley, he has IQ 130 or so, is a Rhode scholar and a big time politician now.
ATM, Tim Duncan is just as atypically low-key as you can get, save for the tattoos. Dirk is even more shy. Foyle is also a very quiet, intelligent guy, same with Okafor. PJ Brown is also a great charity guy, just like Mutombo. Wade of course (fav book: Pride and Prejudice

Oh, I'm sorry, must've misinterpreted and missed the sarcasm by a mile then, I didn't think that the league is full of thugs and that they are the typical players

The Wades and the Duncans of the league seem about right then.
edit: thethief, wasn't Kemp the one? I always wondered how the hell he could've played at that level when a friend told me this.
Hah, you're right, I just found it:"During the hearing, Clark has said he is an alcoholic and "never played in an NBA game sober", drinking alcohol at halftime break of games." I understand the eye rolling part then, my bad.

yeah, it's pretty obvious that u misinterpreted it. it was just too funny reading the topic and then one of the first ones comes up with kemp.

Eh, not to overdo it here but the NBA is probably a microscosm of society at large. The majority of NBA athletes are probably just regular dudes, hell how many buddies do you have that would act differently with a few million and a recognizable face?
On the one hand you are always gonna have your guys that are just problems. Ryder, Kemp, Q Woods... You are also gonna have your guys that are just phenomenal human beings, G Hill, T Duncan, M Bol. You also got folks that are more complicated then they are generally portrayed Artest, Marbury, AI. I think most guys are probably like Joe Johnson, Odom, R Jefferson... dudes that just show up to work.
Personally, I'm the most fascinated by the guys like Kidd and Bryant. Generally portrayed well in the media but are actually jackasses as people.

So I guess that means 2/3rds of the league has issues? As far as I know Joe is clean, but Odom was suspended twice for smoking pot and RJ is currently under investigation for assaulting someone outside a night club in Minneapolis.

Is smoking pot an "issue"? If so I think that the majority of Americans under 60 have expirimented to some degree with having "issues". I hadn't heard bout the RJ thing, apparently he was accused of something by some guy. We'll see if anything happens.
I picked three names at random but upon further inspection Odom has always been known as a delinquent (because he smoked pot, at least he didn't do coke like the president of the US, and hopefully the next one).
I just think that it is fairly unsustantiated to assume that most players in the league are criminals. Unless someone can back it up with something real.
