"Blakey"

Post#1 » by LarBrd33 » Mon Feb 25, 2008 5:42 pm

Lol... there must be some backstory to why your announcer kept calling Steve Blake "Blakey", but I gotta say it was one of the fruitiest things I've ever heard from an annouce team. I watch the games on NBA League Pass and the Celtic game last night was broadcasting the Portland feed. "Blakey" "Blakey" "Blakey" over and over. Sounded like some kind of pet name some 16 year old girl would call her high school sweetheart. At one point he called Pierce, "Piercey"... it became a running joke in my apartment with my roommates. "nice play by Garnetty.... oh nice feed by Rondo-y... Beautiful shot, Alleny... why aren't they playing Big Baby?... oh ... wait... "

What's the deal with that? Funny stuff :)

I think Rice was a hockey player at one point or another.

Mike Rice has been broadcasting here a long time. He used to be funny in a silly way. Now he is old and annoying. It rarely happens but when games are telecast on 2 different channels, I love the chance to hear a Blazer game called by knowledgeable basketball people with a couple brain cells still bouncing around between their ears.

It's a form of adoration. I call Webster "Webby!!!" all the time in the chat. We give Jarret the full on Jacquie name. Unfortunately adding a Y doesn't work so well for Brandon... Royy - doesn't really work, but I think Royie wouldn't be too bad.

How about some adjectives:

Outlawlicious
Roytastic
Jackerriffic :noway:  <---Jack's Smiley Form.

I got annoyed with the Blakey as well. These guys are not playing tee-ball for crying out loud.

Anyone who cant enjoy Mike Rice needs to take
the stick out of their a$s and thats all there is to it.

If you cant take the stick out then maybe you should
go listen to all of the other cookie cutter announcers.

No stick up there, but I almost jammed a fork into my ear from listening to Rice. But I've said my side on this many times. Just not my cup of tea I guess. Gimme insight over senile any day of the week. (or good jokes)

I'm going to agree with the Odd one on this. Rice is fine as faras I'm concerned. he's a home for sure, but whenever he takes off th homer glasses, his insights are fine,

But if we had a Bill Schonley/Steve Jones tandem, I'd be happiest.

+1, except for maybe not quite so angry. I like our Mikes. They are definitely some huge homers, although they seemed slightly better against boston, especially considering how bad the refs actually were.

Maybe Rice is an acquired taste. When I listened to him at first I felt he was kinda annoying. I was used to Snapper being on there - ofcourse, I grew up listening to the radio broadcasts, as I had no cable... So I've heard Rice quite a bit actually... :P That screws my theory...
