Where might Arenas go as a free agent?

Post#1 » by TheOUTLAW » Mon Feb 25, 2008 9:40 pm

He's already of record that he'll exercise his player option and become a free agent (I'm not sure that this is such a good idea). Where do you think he'll end up and for how much.

Hard to tell, he said he will opt out. Then during the All-Star game, he said he hadn't made up his mind yet and that he would see what Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler would do.

Probably to whatever teams pays the most *shrugs shoulders*

Then again, he is THE MAN in Washington. If he goes to another team that already has a star player, I don't know how he'd react to not being top dog.

If he opts out this summer, he won't have many options. The Wizards can obviously go as far over the cap as they want to resign him. The Sixers will have cap space to spend. And if Marion opts out and leaves Miami, the Heat can offer him some decent cash.

Outside of those 3 teams, no one has enough to spend on Arenas.

He'd be much better off not opting out and looking for a new contract in 09 when seemingly half the NBA will have cap space.

Rumor has it the 76ers have him at the top of their free agent list and the Heat have him second only behind Brand. I hope he stays in Washington and becomes the superstar that we know he can be. Yes he can, yes he can, yes he can, yes he can! Arenas 08

Becomes a superstar? I thought he already was considered a superstar.

Anyway, I'm sure he is the top FA for the Sixers, but I can't imagine anyway that he leaves Washington for Philly.

Yeah, that would be pointless on many levels.

He loves Washington and Washington loves him.

The Wizards have a more establish club with two all stars and good young players.

The Wizards can offer him more money.

I fail to see how he would benefit from going to Philly.

If Gilbert actually had an agent, he would understand just how idiotic it is to opt out this season, considering there will be no team that can offer as much money or length in contract than the Wizards can.

But if he were to wait a year, THEN opt out, there would be a lot of teams that could and would break the bank for him.

You're not going to hear me complaining about his decision, though.

I bet arenas will stay in washington, he just wants to test the waters...why wouldnt he? Oakland if baron opts out which he wont.

Clippers could be a strong candidate especially if one or both of Maggette/Brand leave... He has already said he would like to return to LA

hasn't he already said he will opt out and either resign with the wizards or go to a contender even if that means less money?
if that's really the case u can't argue about his decision. what contender will have enough cap space in 09 to sign him. i guess none. so if he wants to go to a contender and earn big time money, it has to be a sign and trade with washington, so it doesn't matter if its 08 or 09.
by opting out he either has the chance to win a title earlier or he will earn more money earlier...

He will exercise his options and see where he get the MOST money and benefits for SURE!

The guy plays games, he loves to play 2k basketball because they are better than the EA Live basketball, but when the Cover boy deal came to his door he declined 2k and went for EA Live because they were offering more money.

I think same thing will happen here, he'll definitely go for the money.

What rumor? Billy King and Larry Brown flat out hate the guy and some do most within the organization. I don't know what Stefanski thinks because I haven't talked to them about him, but I do know that Brown, Witte, and DiLeo flat out want nothing to do with Gilbert.

Philadelphia is MUCH more interested in Brand IF he shows himself healthy.
