JustBlaze20 -

3rd, 4th, 5th whatever

It's supposed to be a team. Not a competetion as to who is the top options. That makes no sense and doesnt mean he doesnt deserve his contract. James Worthy was the 3rd option on the 84/85 Lakers. Does that mean he didnt deserve the salary he was making back then because he was 3rd option.

And yes i am bringing up his current stats. Its natural to do that when the team is 9-1 over there last 10 games.

I can make a argument Lakers can win the title without Andrew Bynum who is supposed to be ahead of Lamar when it comes to Options.

Lamar does what Gasol does not do and thats Rebound and Gasol is the scorer of the two. Even though LO has been putting up 20 a game lately.

If we wants to stay on the lakers he's going to have to take a paycut and get 6-8 mil. But if he's looking to get paid, he'll get alot more than this if he shops around. As far as what he's worth on the market? I have no idea. I thought I did, but after seeing what Rashard Lewis got paid. Anything can really happen now a days. I mean Smush Parker got a multi year deal with the heat.

What a bizarre thread. Odom is a good player. He is playing well right now. And offering him a contract bordering on the max based on 2 weeks of play is ludicrous.

The guy is a good (ideal?) 3rd option. Once Bynum comes back, he may not even be that...paying him anything over $9-10M would be a disaster.

A 10 million dollar 4th option is just stupid. And people who say Gasol is the MVP of the Lakers are complete morons. How can you go from a crappy ass team to the MVP of the league? Remind me, what place were the Lakers in in the West before Bynum got hurt? Oh wait I remember. 1st place in the West with Bynum and before Gasol. What were they winning by? Oh yeah 20 per contest and Kobe and Bynum were sitting a bunch of minutes in the 4th quarter if they had to play at all.

The Lakers need to trade Odom next season for a true swingman on a rookie contract to a team like the Bulls sign and trade for Deng or something like that at 10 mil per season.

Another scenario is to just sign Ariza for MLE to start at the 3 and trade Odom for draft picks to a team like the Nets and let him go play in Brooklyn.

Lakers won't pay Bynum 10 mil, Gasol 15 mil, Bryant 20 mil, Odom 10 mil, Sasha 4 mil, Farmar 6 mil, Fisher 5 mil, Turiaf 4 mil, Ariza 6 mil, Vlad 6mil, Walton 6 mil. Just too many good players to pay.

That is 92 million in contracts. I just don't see that happening.
