DISABLED PLAYER EXCEPTION -- This exception allows a team which is over the cap to acquire a replacement for a disabled player who will be out for the remainder of that season or the following season (if the player is disabled after November 30). This exception can also be granted in the event of a player's death. This exception can only be used to acquire one player. The maximum salary for the replacement player is 50% of the injured player's salary, or the average salary, whichever is less (see question number 24 for the definition of "average salary"). Approval from the league (based on a determination by an NBA-designated physician) is required for this exception to be used. This exception can be used to sign a free agent, or to create room to accept a salary in trade. When used for trade, the team may acquire a player whose salary (including any trade bonus) is up to 100% of this exception plus $100,000 (not 125%).

I was just curious if we are allowed to use this exception since this guy has been injured for like 2 years now, and if anybody knows if the team has looked into it?

I dont see the point. The maximum amount we could use is what? 1.25 million? That is basically the Vet Min. We wouldnt need to go through all those hoops. Just sign a player for the vet min.

Yeah he's been hurt, but he played this season so the exception for the Lakers is probably moot. Basically if you read more into it the exception states that the player has to be injured after the first month of the season with no chance to return at all.

In the Mihm case he played periodically during the season.

I heard Mihm will not be back this year, and he will pick up his option for next year.

So guess he will be a Laker for one more year

you're right, but what we would have is an extra roster spot.

we only have 14 players signed already, ever since Cook and Evans left. so we have had that extra spot.

Yeah the injury has to occur before November 30 for the team to receive the exception. If the injury occurs after November 30, then forget about it for this season, we're talking about whether the team can receive it for next season. Pretty sure that includes deaths as well for anyone thinking of causing Mihm to have an accident.
