OT - Would you watch the Sparks?

Post#1 » by ChocolateThundr » Tue Feb 26, 2008 5:16 am

If they select Candace Parker with the 1st overall pick, which I think 99% they will.

I am a big fan of Parker although I didnt think she deserved the slam dunk champion several years back. It was a backhanded compliment to women basketball players IMO.

Anyways, I would definately start watching the sparks, not only because Candace Parker has a pretty face, but she is also a balleress.

I dont have a problem with her coming to the Lakers. And I also think that two letter answers should not be +1 in posts.

Yeah it's inferior to the NBA and I doubt anyone will say that it could one day become nearly as good as the men's leagues (including the main European ones), but women's basketball won't ever develop if there isn't a place for them to play after they graduate from college. Besides, what's the benefit of shutting down the league? (for us anyway)

You know, when this league first started. I thought it would be kinda cool. I remember the league slogan "we got next". But I tried watching it and it was just terrible.

But if the sparks draft candace parker, I actually hope they do. Ive heard about her a little. Honestly, Id probably just watch like 1 highlight. I remember when diane taurasi came out of college she had a lot of hype too. Now whats she doing? I havent heard anything from her since she got drafted in the wnba. Its a dying league and thats only if it was ever alive.

Can I root for a team I have no desire to watch?

just based on the response so far, it doesnt seem positive.

i think the league just may have run its course.

a part of me hopes for the best and that it can be an avenue where women can continue after their college years.

but again, if this thread is any indicator, i just dont think the popularity is able to fill seats.

No. No one cares about the WBA and that won't be changing in our lifetime.

I have better things to do with my life, like posting on the internet while making fun of ugly, horse-faced WNBA players.

I like this for the Sparks. I've loved those guys since the very beginning. She should be awesome with Lisa Leslie.

This is a league in which their star players go play in Europe and Asia when the season ends. There is no way I'd be watching the WNBA. I love when they gave the bios on the women thought pretty interesting.
