The ownership has shown that they WILL spend in the past . Otis has stated that they would spend on the "right player" . I don't know who that player is, but I think they would .

I agree. And if you guys remember Detroit refused to match Chicago's 100 something million on Big Ben, offering only 82 I think. I give Otis his due credit, the team is a far better product then what we had on the floor last year. And to solidify this statement think back to that terrible season where TMac decided to bounce. Every season after that Orlando has made significant moves in the season after. There are no magic pills and quick fixes. Slow and steady wins the race, I would rather us have a product as consistent as a San Antonia and a Detroit in a few year, than have something like a one hit wonder like (Miami). Slow and steady.

We will never be like those teams because they draft wisely, and aren't afraid to make moves.

Detroit has drafted terribly. Other than Prince none of their starters were from the draft or traded for their draft picks. Detroit's drafting has rivaled Orlando's over the last 6 years or so.

Did they not draft

Jason Maxiell
Rodney Stuckey
Aaron afflalo (however you spell it)
Carlos Delfino

compared to

Jerryl sasser
Reece Gaines
JJ Redick
Fran Vasquez

I'd say the pistons are doing just fine....

Forgot Amir Johnson and Okur. Not stellar but better than us by leaps and bounds. Aslo their #1 in Darko netted them another first from us.

Sorry I missed this earlier. Otis smart with money? As soon as we got a small nit of cap relief he blew it by giving a 2nd tier player max money when he was bidding against himself. Outside of that he made sure to make it a sign and trade so we could pay some additional money. Then he goes and gives Nelson an unwarranted extension. This isn't my idea of smart spending.

Gotta agree with the others.

Detroit plays their picks. That alone says something.

Same here, that teams grettest asset is their management, especially Dumars.

Other than Prince, none of the guys Detroit has drafted have done anything for them in the playoffs and on the championship teams. Detroit did not get good because of the draft. They got good because they used their money well and made savvy moves to build their team.
