I have heard people say this all the time that there is a restriction on the MIP award.
There isn't.
I'm almost 100% certain there is no restriction, and it makes no sense to me why there would be one. I don't know where the speculation started but it comes up almost every year and it needs to stop unless someone can actually back it up...
Mikki Moore got votes for the award last year in his 9th season at age 31, so even if there is some absurd restriction about < 10 seasons or <32 years old (why on earth would there be) Hedo is eligible.

well Glyde is the all knowing all seeing...I am 1000% positive that I have read where there was a limit based on career length, and even if you look back in the Sentinel (not that it helps my case) they mentioned that as well, that Hedo's season would be wasted outside of the Magic's eyes because he didnt qualify for MIP...
meh...

Damn, forgot Calderon, he would definitely win it if Bynum can't come back in top form.

My suspicion is, that some other american sport may have this restriction, and people (even sportswriters possibly) get confused and think the NBA has is at well.
I remember that happened when Flip coached the All star game and 4-5 Pistons were picked as reserves (as voted by all nba coaches) and someone accused Flip of picking his own players (As I think happens in some other sport where the coach picks the bench himself)... I dont remember the other sport.
For me, only following the NBA and having zero interest in MBL, NFL or NHL, saves me from getting mixed up I guess...

^ I know I'm new here posting, but The Glyde was one of the main reasons I started reading this forum regularly a while ago. He, SpineDoc, Dome, thE thIEf and a few others really know there stuff, and seem like true magic fans! So they're definitely some of my fav posters here (no homo).
Unfortunately he retired as a mod and now posts alot less!
Always good to hear your imput though!

And like thief said, I remember that only players under 5-6 years in the league are eligable. So I don't think Hedo qualifies, might be wrong though.
what? only 5-6 years? that's disrespectful. that's probably otis fault too. he probably made that rule up to make up for overpaying Lewis and underpaying Dwight.

i remember reading an article last year that suggested that lottery picks are never really candidates, simply because they're projected to make that kind of impact to begin with. the award usually goes to someone who's played out of their projected limitations (eg, 2nd rounders, late 1sts, seasoned vets who've suddenly found form).
Bynum is probably a little more eligible, but seeing as though he's missed half the season, i think it takes him out of the running.
Hedo's in with a chance.

Nice read, alex's are taking over RealGM
Hedo really deserves the prize and a special "Clutch" award cuz he's been killing teams right, left and center in the fourth quarter. The All-Star snub was bad but the AS weekend is a joke these days, only the most publicity-driven players get there (see BaronDavis, if he was in LA he'd be there every year).
This one's for Hedo
