Von's chance to be BRB is Wafer-thin

Post#1 » by TBpup » Wed Feb 27, 2008 2:28 am

Back in 1979, the Blazers picked up a 6'4" shooting guard out of the CBA named Billy Ray Bates. He came from out of nowhere to average 11.3 ppg while shooting .493% FG% and .421% from 3-pt range. That helped the Blazers get into the playoffs where Bates blew up scoring 25.0 ppg, 4.0 rebs and 3.3 assists while shooting .525% from the field.

Little chance of catching lighting in a bottle twice but it sure would be fun. Billy Ray mania was everywhere and he became an instant local cult hero. One of the biggest games of his career was against the Lakers in LA where he took over and dominated a portion of the game to the point he was even getting respect from Laker fan who had no idea who he was. A couple of thunder dunks, a '3' and a string of a dozen consecutive points later and Bates was well on his way to a short-lived hero status.

I'd be happy if Wafer just had a good game.

If he does something to Kobe tonight I'll be happy.

VW can get up and his first comment to Bill Bayno was that he wanted to work on his 'D'.

I'd be delighted if he just gets a chance to play.

It's really bad, but I am hoping Jack gets food poisoning (and Jack is a great guy-so nothing passed a week or two) for VW to at least get a shot.

Von's performance off the bench was very Billy Ray-like. 11 points and 5 rebounds....just like Bates.

I didn't get to see the game. How did the Wafer look? What stood out about his game? To be honest I don't think I've ever seen him play. I've read all the scouting reports draft express write ups and so forth but I wan't to hear from some Blazer fans who watched the game. Thoughts...?

He looked aggressive and unafraid to take a big shot.

Is Von into copious amounts of cocaine and alcohol? That was BRB's problem if I remember correctly.

OK Von Wafer is a cool cat but at one point he did excite us in laker land! He had some nice dunks and a pretty looken jump shot (perfect form)!

He is pretty good but i bet u guys release him at end of this season on sometime next season. He has a bit of an attitude, he could have changed that though.

I happen to disagree... During practices T.Green showed alot of promise at being the future PG. That dont mean i hate Wafer though, he is really athaletic and can drain the 3!
