Yao Ming
Yao Ming has a stress fracture in his left foot and will miss the rest of the season including the playoffs. The rockets would be lucky to make the playoffs now I believe.

All-Star center Yao Ming is out for the season with a stress fracture in his left foot, a stunning blow to the surging Houston Rockets.
General manager Daryl Morey made the announcement Tuesday, hours before the Rockets put their 12-game winning streak on the line against the Washington Wizards.
"It is not an injury we feel he can play with," Rockets team doctor Tom Clanton said. "I've made the recommendation that it be treated surgically and we are working with him to get other opinions just to be certain that that is indeed what should be done.""This is unbelievable," Rockets owner Les Alexander told KRIV-TV in Houston. "This is the most heart-breaking. This is the worst I've felt."

That's terrible news to Rockets; I agree with you though, they need to make a move I think McGrady would be the first one gone if offered the right package.

Tough break (no pun intended).
I think some of the criticism Tmac takes for not advancing is lil unfair. Last few years he's actually played great, his team hasn't come through. Yao is the softest 25 & 10 guy I've ever seen.

Yao Ming is out for the season, including the playoffs should the Rockets get there, with a stress fracture. At a time the Rockets were going better than they have in a decade, not just winning games by the dozen but improving with more room to grow evident, the life was drained from the winning streak and the Rockets' prospects.
This feels worse, though, than even that. No one so large has ever been asked to do what Yao has done for the Rockets. The previous giants were specialists. Those close in size that came close to his role - Arvydas Sabonis, Zydruynas Ilgauskas and Rik Smits - had foot and ankle problems that derailed their careers, but were able to eventually succeed. Bill Walton never was the same.
A stress fracture is far more foreboding than last season's crack in his leg or the toe infection that required surgery. Those had the feel of fluke, the sort of things that happen. This seems more threatening. We'll know more when the doctors talk about his prognosis, but this feels dangerous.

Yao Ming's season-ending foot injury caused shock and concern in his native China on Wednesday, though hopes remained high he'd recover in time for the Beijing Olympics in August. The NBA All-Star is the world's best known Chinese athlete and far and away the most popular sports star in China, embodying the country's collective hopes for global competitiveness and international acceptance. While China is not considered a leading Olympic medal contender in basketball, the 2008 Olympic hosts see Yao as one of the faces of the games. They're counting on him to lift the event's public profile, and draw fans and viewers from around the world.
"The only thing offering Yao Ming any solace at this time is that his injury will not force him to miss the Beijing Olympics of his dreams," leading newspaper Titan Sports said in a front page article.China's Basketball Association called a news conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss Yao's condition, portraying it almost as an issue of national security. "This is highly sensitive, so don't send any foreigners" to attend the news conference, the association's deputy director, Hu Jiashi, told The Associated Press, without explaining further. Spokesmen for the Chinese Olympic Committee said they had no immediate comment. The Houston Rockets' center was ruled out for the season Tuesday with a stress fracture in his left foot, dealing a major blow to his team's playoff hopes. While word of Yao's injury arrived too late for most Chinese newspaper deadlines, it was a leading item on the main national midday television news report.
Doctors blamed the injury on accumulated stress on the bone, rather than any single incident. Titan said the true cause was the Rockets' failure to provide a reliable substitute for Yao, forcing him to play long minutes every game. "In fact, exhaustion was really the major reason behind Yao Ming's injury," the paper said. Yao's injuries elicit major concern among Chinese sponsors and television stations broadcasting Rockets games, since viewership tends to fall dramatically when he is not playing. A spokesman for the Chinese Olympic Association said it had no statement on Yao's condition and the Chinese Basketball Association did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Apart from Yao, the Chinese national team also boasts former Dallas Mavericks center Wang Zhizhi, the first Chinese player in the NBA, along with 6-foot-11 power forward Yi Jianlian of the Milwaukee Bucks.

All-Star center Yao Ming is out for the season because of a stress fracture in his left foot, a blow to the surging Rockets. General manager Daryl Morey made the announcement Tuesday, hours before the Rockets extended their winning streak to 13 by beating the Wizards. Yao, 27, was averaging 22 points and 10.8 rebounds. "It is not an injury we feel he can play with," Rockets team doctor Tom Clanton said. "I've made the recommendation that it be treated surgically, and we are working with him to get other opinions just to be certain that that is indeed what should be done."
Clanton said there was no specific event that led to the injury, but rather an "accumulation of stresses on the bone." Yao first experienced soreness and pain in his ankle before the All-Star game and tests were done Monday when the situation didn't seem to be improving. If Yao chooses surgery, Clanton said, it would involve placing screws across the bone to hold it together. The second option would be to treat it with a cast and crutches. Both options involve a healing time of about four months. Clanton would not say when Yao could play again but said he doesn't expect the center to miss the Beijing Olympics in August.
Morey acknowledged that it was difficult news to receive when the team has been playing so well. "It's a pretty big swing from a high to a low, with how we were playing," Morey said. "We feel like our supporting cast is superior to when we played without Yao in the past. We remain ready for the challenge ahead." The Rockets now will have to rely heavily on 41-year-old Dikembe Mutombo. A 17-year veteran, he has been averaging eight minutes.Clanton informed Yao of the extent of his injury and said the player was worried whether he'd be healthy in time for the Olympics.

Yao Ming is done for the season with a stress fracture in his left foot, and likely so are the Rockets, who had pulled themselves into a playoff spot and were a serious threat under new coach Rick Adelman. Now 22 points and 10.8 rebounds are gone and the Rockets are left with a 7-foot-7 hole in the middle of their lineup.
The loss of Yao might also take the Rockets out of the Brent Barry sweepstakes. There were reports Monday that the Rockets were making a hard push for Barry, but that was before tests on Yao revealed the bad news.

Losing Yao means the Rockets are done as a credible NBA title threat. The Rockets are going to have all they can do to hold off Denver and Golden State to so much as earn the No. 8 playoff seed now. But Yao is 27 and the Rockets will have many more grabs at the golden ring as long as they get their big man healthy and don
