interesting dunk contest idea for future................

Post#1 » by thaAteam » Wed Feb 27, 2008 4:13 am

Everyone says the dunk contest is dead and nothing is original, so why doesnt the nba turn the dunk open round into a game of pig, or anything you can do i can do better, i think it would have been great to see if green coulda dunked from behind the backboard or superman it, or if howard coulda blew off the candle or between the legs in socks? thoughts

this is a horrible idea, if you knew anything about dunking you would know there are basically two different types of styles.

there are people who are two-footed dunkers, and one-footed dunkers. There are some dunks (like the FT dunk, that two footed dunkers like J-Rich wouldn't be able to do).

Also, what if Dwight Howard was in it against Nate Robinson(who is just a gimmick anyway though) and Howard did dunks that basically require you to be over 6'8 like hte behind the backboard dunk.

If they want to change the dunk contest, they should pick the best dunkers in the league and FORCE them to be in it.

Dwight Howard
Amare
Lebron
Jason Richardson

that is what the dunk contest should be.

all they gotta do to fix it is go back to old rules.. 1 attempt per dunk and maybe throw in 1 redo for the whole contest.. this way they wont try dunks they KNOW will take multiple attempts and itll be more competitive b/c the pressure on the dunkers to complete it.. itll also be a more hyped up crowd because there wont be redos/delayed or lesser cheers b/c they know whats coming)..

historically though the dunk contest has been first couple yr players though so we wouldnt see lbj, jrich, amare, though itd be better i agree.. i wonder who will be in it next year beside dwight, any good dunkers coming out? tyler smith? idk

Can't remember where, but somewhere on ESPN they brought up the idea of giving the winner of the D-League dunk contest a wild card spot. That would be pretty interesting, sort of add an underdog element. You know the crowd would be rooting for that guy like crazy, it would be worth a try.

What they should do is introduce a wheel and the dunker has to spin it to see what dunk they.....errr nevermind. Sounds like a terrible idea. I'm an idiot. The NBA would never do something that stupid. Sorry guys.

Get the best shot blockers in the league, and in one round of the dunk contest, the participants have to try to complete a nasty posterization of guys like Camby, Dwight, Dalembert, etc.

Might be kinda dangerous though, so doubt it would ever be considered.

if they made winning it worth 5 mil (which the NBA could easily afford) they would get better competitors, which would breed higher levels of competition, and will lead to better and more entertaining dunks.

The Dunk competition would be better if the main prize was a $1m Ferrari or so. Or invite Foyle, Araujo, Kwame and Julian Wright (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3fWwtB9GJ4) into the contest.

How about dunk two balls off dribbles? It takes tremendous skills, big hands and hang time to pull that off.

They should stop the dunk contest for 2-3 years then bring it back and it will be fresh..sort of.

I think they should be allowed to re-enter people who didnt win. After all, it IS meant to be for the best dunkers in the nba.

At least we can put the BS "you have to be in your 1st 3 seasons in the league to get in the dunk contest" "rule" that so many people believed existed. Dwight won it in this, his 4th season in the league. Any star would obviously be welcomed to the dunk competition with open arms no matter how long they've been in the league.
