Yao should get a personalized shoe made in the offseason. He should really work on it by being side by side with the shoe company. That way, when the Rockets are playing the regular season, there are no problems.

This is actually pretty interesting to consider. Personally, I've always hated Reebok for basketball shoes. I think Nike has always been the way to go, and occasionally Adidas.

i have 3 reebok shoes (shaq attack, shaqnosis and and the reebok ribs or something all of them in the early 90's) and all 3 of them gave me 5-7 ankle sprains on both feet, my left foot was also diagnosed with a stress fracture (wear and tear in basketball), i didnt opt for the surgery i just let it heal for a year, but damn! walking on the streets for an hour is a pain in the ass!!

I currently wear the Nike Zoom BBs, and they've protected my feet great so far (knocks on wood).

Dammn...

You boys got something here. I's just thinking about it when I heard Yao was developing stress fracture above the arch of his foot. It's not uncommon to have small stress type fractures to bones and given time the bone eventually heals. But for someone his size and given the repetitive stress fractures with inadequate time to heal is a major problem.

Shoes are a big deal. Reeboks have been well marketed but IMO they are notorious for poor quality/design. I've had problems with their shoes in the past.
The hard plastic heel support they used in the past have been known to wear through the fabric and cause blisters/cuts on my heel/achilles area. Their basketball shoes are not as well cushioned and forgiving as the Nike and Adidas.

Basketball shoes can be attractive. Most do offer support in vital areas but when I intend to do alot of running and jumping I prefer lightweight trainers that provide more foam support for better cushioning and less weight. I have flat feet but do find that a soft arch support works keeps my feet from tiring.

Hopefully, Yao can design some shoes to work for him instead of wearing shoes made for other people.
