Interested in Chill and/or Zaza?

Post#1 » by Rod700 » Wed Feb 27, 2008 9:08 pm

Hawks fan here. Congrats on the great season you guys have going. At the end of the year we will likely be shopping Zaza and possibly Josh Childress in a sign and trade. I know you guys have been looking for a big man, and I've heard you might be interested in a shooting guard as well. (Even if you don't like Zaza, he is an expiring contract.)

I just wanted to see if your team would have any interest in a trade involving those players in the offseason. If so, I wanted to guage what you might be willing to part with talent-wise since we can only speculate at Chill's contract amount as this point. This would involve the complete rebuilding of our bench, so cheap role players and picks are welcome. If you're not interested, that's fine too. No harm, no foul. Just getting some ideas. Best of luck in the playoffs guys.

I would be interested but in return don't expect any of these four (Hedo, Nelson, Lewis, Dwight)... The rest are all expendable IMO.

Rest:

Battie
Cook
Bogans
JJ
Foyle
Gortat

Are any of these what Atlanta would want?

A) I'm not sure so perhaps one or more would
B) I really don't think they would though for Childress/Zaza

Hate to harp on this - had we gotten some one with our expirings - even one that doesn't really fit now - we could have some assets to trade.

If Atlanta matches a max MLE offer, I would be down for sign-and-trading for Childress. Lets say he signs for 7M.

I would do:

JJ (3M)
Bogans (3M)
and whoever we pick with our first (1.5M)

for

Childress (8M)

Jameer/Dooling
Childress/Evans
Rashard/Hedo
Battie/Fran or Cook
Dwight/Foyle

That lineup is siiiick

Childress does nothing for me, I see no need to sacrifice players for either of the two (as much as I love Zaza).

Well, we would be rebuilding the bench, so we would be needing players at pretty much every position from the 2 to the 5. JJ is an attractive offer, but we don't need a shooter as much now that we have Bibby to help spread the floor. Battie wouldn't be a bad addition as a backup big, but his contract is too big for what we woud use him for. He's honestly going to be more valuable to title contending teams, especially the ones who lost out on the competition for Kurt Thomas. Considering how our rosters compare, we might be needing a pick to make the deal work.

Wouldn't dream of it man. I have a lot of respect for those guys and I know how important they are to your team.

From out point of view, that trade has real promise. We would need to control who you select with that pick though, and it would need to be a big man.

Um couldn't we get Chill and Zaza next year without trading?

I mean don't they both expire?

Maybe they are RFA's but from what I've seen and heard with Atlanta they will have all their money tied up with Smith, Johnson, Biibby and the rest?

Solid role players, young guys with potential, cheap veteran leadership, rookie picks . . . all the basics of building a good bench . . . or any that we can get.

We pretty much have a well balanced starting line up together, so I doubt we are looking for any skill set in particular. Just a solid bench that keeps us out of the luxary tax. And we could use some height and size at center, but we may be able to address that through free agency.

That's a good point. Zaza actually has one very affordable year left on his contract (4 million). When I said he would be an expiring contract, I meant that his contract would be in it's last year at the time the trade would occur (in the offseason). Chill is a restricted free agent, which means that we could keep him if we are willing to match any offers. In addition, Chill might actually make more if he is involved in a sign and trade with another player who addresses another team need rather than just signing with someone. In other words, they would be paying Chill to have his services and Zaza's, and that's especially feasible considering how cheap Zaza's contract is.

I would LOVE them both but I dont really know what Atlanta is looking for and if what we have is enought.

But I would give them

Dooling or whoever they wanted, that is not Jameer,Dwight,Lewis.

I would give them Hedo if they add some other people like both Chill and Zaza also some other SG because we would probably lose Mo since we have to re-sign Chill. SO add Salim and Im in.

Zaza, I wouldn't mind the Magic going after, but do they have the right piece(s) to convince the Hawks to part with him? As for J-Chill, I'm 50/50 on him right now.

I always like Zaza.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability
