Most Damaging Contract Given in the Last 5 Years

In your opinion what recent contract has been the most damaging to the team that handed it out?

I would suggest Ben Wallace's? Signing him took the Bulls from a team with unlimited upside, a ton of financial flexibility and loads of youth and forced them to trade for Larry Hughes. If his contract forces them to give up Deng or Gordon, that is even worse.

Although, he was an integral part of their championship run, the Heat signing Antoine Walker definitely is a reason that they are where they are right now.

Brad Miller, maybe?

More than 5 years ago, but that's the most damaging one I can think of.

KMart's contract hasn't kept the Nuggs from having a huge payroll. Same with Darius Miles. And it wasn't just Larry Hughes' contract that kep the Cavs from adding players, it was that Ferry signed everyone else to above market deals also. And while contracts like Brian Cardinal's and Adonal Foyle's are bad and have hampered those respective franchises, I wouldn't say they're the most damaging.

While it was kind of a given at the time that the Bulls were signign Ben to a bad contract, part of the idea was that it was really hurting a division rival too. IMO the biggest issue with the Big Ben contract wasn't the on court production or that he got turned into Larry Hughes, it was that they lost Tyson Chandler because of it.


But 4 years from now, Cklbmk's got the answer to the question. As bad as the Rashard Lewis contract looks now, it'll look 10 times more ridiculous in a few years.

the best candidates would be marko jaric or troy hudson, but neither of them are so completely damaging ala brian grant. I'd personally choose rashard lewis, seriously who would want a 35 year old rashard lewis at 20 mil?

But his contract never stopped the Knicks from spending and spending and spending, so I don't think it was really that damaging.

What about Ricky Davis and Shareef Abdur-Raheem? Just having those contracts seemed to be damaging for most all of their respective teams.

Before this season.....Murphy and Dunleavy for the Warriors. Now.....Dunleavy ( at least ) is earning his paycheck...and Murphy is playing somewhat decent ( as of late ).

Unfortunately, despite their production.....both are anchoing our Salary Cap until the 2010-2011 season.

Special thanks goes to Mullin for giving them so much in the first place...and special thanks to Bird for taking on Murphy's contract ( I don't mind Dunleavy's contract given his production ).

Don't get me wrong...I don't mind both of them as players....I just hate their contract.
