Dampier is useful against big low post guys like Dwight Howard, perhaps Duncan, because he can use his size to man up. I like Oberto more because he's versatile with who he can defend, he has enough mobility to guard quicker bigs like Bosh, Amare, Boozer, etc, and he has the strength to D up against bigger C's. He's also a very, very smart basketball player and brings a lot of intangibles.
so much for project "international-center" I wanted to get oberto to have 3 centers from 3 different continents outside of north america

I think you dont see many spursfans, that will tell you, that orberto is a good defender...average at best but he is in our starting5 coz of his smarts and good hands

tbk...would you confirm the proposed trade? just courious to know...I cant see why not (my assistant GM hates me for giving up josh for marion...even straight up)
I'm away for about 4 1/2 hours
thanks for waiting!
I don't think it's veto worthy (Marion + 9th + 12th for Josh + 9th + 12th right?).
Marion is usually a more valuable player in these types of drafts IMO because he's so good at doing everything you don't need the ball to do (better than Josh IMO). I think he'd be a terrific fit on your team, but as is Josh because he won't cause a stir on the offensive end and he's the better one on one scorer between the two. I'd be happy with either if I had Manu and Garnett.

yeah...ss_mav (my assistant which knows josh very well) told me that the pro for marion would only be that he isnt the better defender but he can guard 4 positions (josh only 2)...he is a slidly better rebounder (maybe only phoenix' pace!!!) while josh can create for himself and others
after all I'm happy the trade didnt went down as I like where I'm standing right now and it would have been a mistake to give up the two picks

Marion's rebounding hasn't fallen off any after he got traded to the Heat tho. It's gone up by 0.6 per game (10.5 as a Heat), and he's been a sick help defender averaging 2.7 steals and 1.5 blocks as a Heat.
Although Josh is a very good defender, I think Marion is flat out better. Marion usually is a DPOY candidate (4th, 7th and 5th the last 3 seasons).
Marion is extremely valuable in these drafts because he's a perfect "role" player. He does everything you want, and then some.

do you know the feeling: opening the final post of the draft-thread...going to the end and then scrolling up slowly...revealing the picture of the player just taken...hoping its not your top-choice?
to make a short story shorter: I never liked ricky and never will!

So wait, you were going to pick him?

Or you just don't like him?

take a look at my team or type of picks and you should get your answer!
Ah yeah, well I remember you had Parker listed as a 3 last time. Davis would fit in nicely at the 2 behind Ginobli. If you you're eluding to your team built around good character guys, then I'll agree to disagree on that. Ricky Davis isn't as bad as he's made out to be, he's had some trouble throughout his career, but so has Artest/Stephen Jackson and plenty of others. IIRC, you were pretty vexed when Artest was picked right before your next selection in the 3rd or 4th round. Ricky gets a bad rep, but he's a very talented player, and I'll gladly take him at my 10th pick.

you got it...but I agree that everyone shoult be given a second chance...its not that I laugh about the davis pick...hes just one of the guys that never would have been on my list...there is some talent left, that I would not touch just because of that (not now...if I would have gotten e.g. artest it may have been a different story)...if you compare the benches (see previous page) you can tell that some GMs only picked looking at talent and some with the focus on chemistry (on or/and offcourt) and I'm one of the later I believe
after all not a bad value pick and a nice sparkplug off the bench
