What if Colangelo can't turn it around?
Let's say if the Knicks do get Colaneglo and aren't able to turn things around? They remain a lottery team the next four seasons, and show no signs of improvement, and Dolan fires him? What do you make of the Knicks them?
Do we then go burn down Dolan's office or something?
Ok, plug in a preferred choice for GM. The issue is the same. If the Knicks can't get respectable after giving Colaneglo 4-5 seasons, then what?

At least our European ratings will be up and Dolan will still be racking in the dough.

Everyone is viewing getting a new GM as salvation for the Knicks. I was asking about what happens if everyone got what they want, and it still doesn't work out. If people are posting what they want, I can then ask, what happens if it doesn't work.

Then we're just back to where we need to try something new. The mistakes of the past don't have to be made again for us not to succeed. There are a variety of things that could happen to any coach or any GM or any player that greatly affect the outcome of a season. The point is someone new has to have a chance first. We'll see what happens and if it's not turned around we'll start a new search, that's all Rich. We'll live...trust me.

If Colangelo can't turn it around then maybe the NBA should contract the Knicks.

Firing Isiah from both of his jobs should improve this team by itself.
My guess is Colangelo would attempt to trade off most of this team and acquire expirings/draft picks/young players.
Its like Isiah Thomas is the only one that hasn't realized that this franchise needed to be completely revamped. Isiah and the Detroit Lions' Matt Millen should be forced into interventions.

Can you see ANYWHERE where I have said NOT to replace Isiah with Colaneglo? I was asking what people would do if even that move doesn't work out.

What makes you think it wont work? The Hawks and Clippers have made leaps and bounds of late through all their franchise mismanagements, anyone can. The point is, some luck is involved in being a good GM, but any team can realistically turn it around with cap space and draft picks. I'm willing to bet many posters on this site can do a half decent job, sure it may not look good at first but it doesn't mean it will never happen.
Which boggles my mind on how bad Isiah Thomas is.
Marbury on playing the role of a PG, "It's been kinda of tough, but it's an adjustment...I haven't been playing as aggressive as I normally play on the basketball court and thats just from trying to get everybody involved and into the game."

I understood what you were doing Rich....some people just have Isiah Thomas bobble heads shoved up their as$.
To answer your question- IMO, even if we aren't yet competitive within 4-5 years of a Colangelo tenure....we will still be far better off than we are now. I have that much faith in a guy with a track record such as his, so long as Dolan stays out of it. I would suspect that we would at least have a very low payroll, lots of young players and draft picks at our disposal. Would that be enough for Dolan and the fans to wait it out a little longer? Probably not. The Knicks organization and fan base are an excellent model of impatience. The terrible job Isiah has done will only become an excuse for people to be even less patient with the next GM....which is pretty backwards if you ask me.

he is a good GM but he's no savior.
Even more so, compared to Isiah, calangelo is a saint around the nba. Calangelo won't let is reputation be tarnished. The nba has been trying to get rid of Thomas for somebody credible so the league won't let him fail either. He has a golden chance to come in here and turn this around. There may not be a better chance than this where everyone would have your back.

Dumb question... The Knicks run the risk of being incapable of turning it around _right now_. Who cares if Colangelo, who may or may not come here, can turn it around? I'm more concerned with today, the here and the now.
But to answer your question, in 4 years with things not changing, we're looking at the Brooklyn Nets as being the pre-eminent NYC based basketball organization. And the fanbase for the storied Knicks franchise? Only the ultimate fans will remain, and every team has fans like these.
Also, The US will annex canada, China will invade Russia, and the world will end in nuclear holocaust as everyone launches Nukes at each other rendering every super power in the world to the dark ages.
The 3rd world war would last approximately 60 seconds.
All because Colangelo couldnt turn it around and Dolan fired him.

Then maybe, just maybe, the New York media will be forced to recognize its collective complicity in the inability of the Knicks to first remain and then become an elite basketball team in the past 15 or so years. Certainly if that happens their collective head will explode.
Or perhaps they'll find some other target to exploit and simplify public understanding of. Yeah, that one has a better chance. Far be it for the NY media to take a look in the mirror.
Cheers, Dr. SithMirth
