OT- I Played Basketball With Vince Young Today

Post#1 » by King Roosk » Wed Feb 27, 2008 11:47 pm

So I was at Gregory Gym (the rec at UT) playing some 5 on 5, and who walks in? Selvin Young, Vince Young, and 3 current UT football players. My team won, so Vince and his posse had next...it was friggin insane. We only lost 31-29 (games here are played by twos and threes to 30), but having Vince Young guard you is so amazingly awesome. I felt like a little kid out there; I was star-struck and in absolute shock. Anyways, discuss...or flame/bash me. Either way I don't care, I was so happy it was awesome. It was definitely something to help ease the pain of Yao's injury.

It was so ridiculous playing against them because of how fast and athletic they were. I had like 5 turnovers because passes I usually hit on the dot seemed to float in the air for seconds as the UT players snagged'em out of the air. I've never been so exhausted after a pick game...those guys really are top notch athletes.

Wow that's awesome. The closest I've ever been to a player of any sport was talking to Chris Mullin for like a minute about Dunleavy haha.

Yeah he does. He hit 2 step back 3s, and had 2 driving layups which he finished nicely. I've seen him play on TV a bunch of times, but it's not until he's in your face guarding you that you realize how BIG he is. I tried to cross him a couple times, but I wasn't going anywhere. He's enormous, he's athletic, he can shoot, he can pass...he can ball. I'm not saying he'd be in the NBA or anything, but I'm sure he would be playing ball at a good D1 school if he had taken the basketball route.

Hey, I think I may have seen Vince go there. I had no classes today but I was around the ECJ (Ernest-Cockrell Jr. hall), and I saw Vince walking.

Roosk, do you go to UT right now? because i do..

I was there last spring when VY played in the gym and all of a sudden Kevin Durant walked in too. I got both their autographs. The day could not have been any sweeter.

I remember VY wasnt really that good though. He was strong and powerful but he shot bricks like Dan Langhi. Limas Sweed was the best athlete I have ever seen on that court. He was jumping over people and doing 360s all over the place...and he was injured.

Oh, and VY tried to dunk and barely made it...I would think he could tomahawk or something but he barely got up. Maybe he had just lifted earlier or something.

Around what time? He showed up to Gregory probably at about 2:45, and we played about 15 minutes later. He was with Selvin Young, Brandon Collins, Christian Scott, and George Walker...and Kasey Studdard sat on the sideline. I was in such shock...everyone was like, "holy sh*t that's VY!". It was pretty cool because there was a huge crowd watching our pick up game. I know they were there to see Vince, but only losing by 2 to them in front of a huge crowd was still pretty cool.

Yeah I go to UT, didn't know you went here too. Dude, VY and Kevin Durant in one gym?? WOW. I didn't ask Vince for his autograph because he just wanted to play some bball, but we did shake hands and all that good stuff.

And that's weird that Vince barely dunked? He had 2 driving layups that he could've easily thrown down, but he just finger rolled'em instead. I didn't think he'd be able to shoot, but he nailed 2 stepback threes as well.
