USA Basketball Roster

Post#1 » by Texas Longhorns » Thu Feb 28, 2008 3:30 am

This maybe posted in the wrong board. I'm sorry if it is, I don't really know where to put it. I wanted a lot of people to answer though so I put it in the General. Anyways, the Olympics are coming up soon in August, so who do you want on the USA Basketball roster. Now, the one's that I list on the list below are already basically guaranteed to play. Besides those, pick who you would like to play on the team.

List of guaranteed players (unless they get injured)
1. Kobe Bryant G
2. Carmelo Anthony F
3. Dwyane Wade G
4. LeBron James F
5. Dwight Howard C
6. Jason Kidd G
7. Amare Stoudemire F
8. Chris Bosh F

Here's the LINK
keep in mind not all of the players on that roster will play (obvious ones, Durant, Oden, Etc.)

My projected Lineup

Jason Kidd
Kobe Bryant
Carmelo Anthony
LeBron James
Dwight Howard

Backups/Bench

Chris Paul/Deron Williams
Dwyane Wade
Shane Battier/Tayshaun Prince
Chris Bosh
Amare Stoudemire

- Vince Young - Kevin Durant - LaMarcus Aldrige - T.J. Ford - D.J. Augustin

That's my projected lineup. Now there's only 12 people, when there's really supposed to be 15. The 3 inactives that I forgot to put are Michael Redd, Tyson Chandler, and Shawn Marion.

I'm pretty sure Michael Redd would not be inactive.

Where does it say that? I don't think he's injured, and it's the Olympics. I'm sure he'd want to play if he's not injured after playing in FIBA World 2 years ago.

He's going to risk even more injury if he's not injured already, and besides his style of play does not suit International Basketball, you need a jumper and they don't call touch fouls.

He's not injured though, and I don't think he wouldn't play because he is sucking right now. I think the USA team would rather have him backup Kobe than another guard like Redd. He can still drive, and create pivotal plays during the clutch.

You need shooters in international basketball, we saw how Redd, Miller and other shooters thrived in that type of basketball, out of all of the perimeter players on that list D-Wade has the weakest perimeter game.

Yeah, but don't you think Coach K would pick D-Wade over them?

Coach K is smart enough to know that Redd fits in more than D-wade, he's suppose to assemble a team that works, not a team that has the most stars.

I really don't know how Coach K picks his roster, maybe you know better. I just think that D-Wade's name is that much hyped up that he would pick him since he's a superstar over Redd or Miller or someone. Regardless, Kobe will start though, so it's the bench for these SG's.

I wonder how Kapono would do in international play.

Team USA already picked those players over Arenas and AI (who are both better pure offensive players than Wade), so I don't see a reason Wade gets on the roster, especially with his TOs.

It doesn't matter, the team has Kobe, Dwight Howard, and Carmelo who is a scary offensive player with the international 3pt line.

They didn't pick Arenas or AI this time around because they are selfish players who only jack up shots.

Team USA must have quality, pure shooters mixed in amongst the stars. Therefore Michael Redd, Mike Miller, etc. will likely get the nodd as backup to star two guard or three.
