re: games. Well, its expensive and its more of a scene for some then a game outing. You cant hold it against those who are not rich and or famous when our population is so large.

You're allowed to disagree. If you went to a Lakers game before Shaq got there, you're telling me that the place was packed throughout the game...every time? They were not a very good team and you just didn't fill the place that often, and if you did, it was get there late, leave early...like every other LA team. The Dodgers are the worst example and you can't say it's because of the ticket prices. You certainly will find more die hard Lakers guys than you will Dodgers, but most of the Laker fans I know, couldn't care less if the team was horrible and they are the guys with the damn window flags when they are winning.

The argument you make Pre Shaq was not as long as you think. 91-96? I used to go to the Forum from 80's until it shut down and had a great time with all the fans. Were there down times? sure.. It just allowed me to get better seats and prices.

I think you will find most teams that are in a funk will get less fan support and those that are on the rise or contenders will get bandwagon fans.

Good teams bring out more fans ( just Ask Miami) and when its not working then attentions fade. Maybe its because you are a Sun fan in Laker country and this is the perception you see. But I am a life long Laker fan, my family, friends ,etc.. and we have never jumped off the bandwagon. That is the point, there are always going to be bandwagon fans - but there is just a strong a core of Laker fans as there are Suns Fans or any other team in the NBA.

lest we forget not how fairwheathered people are in Phoenix too, sure, everyone "loves" the Suns; who have almost always been relevant. but there is no love for the DBacks, who won their division playing in a half empty stadium. and you can go to a game for a couple bucks. everyone bitched about how the Cards never did anything to get better, but they didn't have the revenue. they build a stadium, people buy tickets to see the Stadium, and consequently, the Cards can now spend money on FA like James and keep guys like Bolden and Fitzgerald.

i for one, wouldn't mind the Suns taking a nose dive sometime in the next few years. atleast then, i could lock myself up some season tickets in the lower level!

LA just happens to be a bigger city; if you know anything about statistics, it goes to reason that they would have more bandwagon fans than most.

I have no ill will toward real Laker fans; any of us here in Phoenix who are real basketball fans watched the Lakers every week since they were always on National TV playing the Sixers or Celtics. My pops is from bean town and hated the Lakers, so I always had to cheer for Showtime to rile him up. Its good for the game to have the Lakers relevant again.

Personally, I can't cheer for the Lakers' anymore, even if the Suns' somehow ceased to exist. They have to many players that just rub me the wrong way these days. But I have no bad feelings for the real die hard fans.

Obviously when teams are bad, they get less attendance...i'm speaking more to the point that fans show up late and leave early. It's a being seen thing in LA and like I said before, it's more of an issue with the Dodgers than anything. I just find it odd that for the last three years, I could drive around and be happy. When Shaq was there, I just wanted to drive every a-hole off the road with a Lakers window flag. I haven't seen them for 3 years and I'm sure once the playoffs roll around they are going to be out in full force cuz the Lakers have a legit shot at it.

dbdynsty25 have you ever tried to leave Dodger Stadium after a game ? It's pure hell man. Me personally I haven't been to a Dodger game since 93 but that has to do more with the professional side of how the team is being run by it's owners.

As far as the Laker flags true they have popped up like roaches scattering when the lights come on but hey it's all good with me.

Some people just can't root for a team when it's not going good. But real fans like me can and did when the team was down.

And as far as the pre Shaq years the Lakers still averaged about 15,000 plus during those years so for a building like the Forum which capacity was 17,505 thats pretty good.

suns fans can say they hate bandwagoners who only pop up when there team is doing well, but having been on these boards for 7 years now, let me tell you, there seems to be alot more fans when we are winning than the years we were losing

its human nature.

Personally, I support all my teams 200%, win lose or draw, i will never give up on them, when they are down, i cheer louder because thats when they need the most support

so in the past its "irked me" when ive been with a team through the tough then all these people just show up for the glory, but you know what, im fine with it now, because those fans who were still supporting their teams when they were down are the fans for whom success will taste the sweetest

you can never enjoy success to the fullest until you have felt the bitterness of defeat
