PLAYOFFS?!?
ok im an optimist and i think we're gonna make the playoffs this year, either 6,7, or 8 obviously... so of the potential playoff matchups how do u guys think we can do in a 7game series? my opinion:
Boston/Detroit - class of the east, most likely would get swept, maybe we could win one game, but thats about it
Cleveland - right there w/bos and det, but need time to gain chemistry.. i think we could take a game or 2 from them.. who konws? maybe VC would be inspired to see what a true superstar can do to carry a team
Orlando - a team we can beat in a series.. weve been competitive w/them throughout the year and even last game did pretty well.. hopefully devin harris comes in healthy and provides the boost we need ... i say we could either win or lose in a 7th game
Toronto - lets face it, we got worse from last year while they got either better or the very least stayed the same... that past expierience should help them... they would beat us in a series.. VC cannot handle the boos in toronto
Washington - at full strength it would be a dog fight, could go either way in 6 or 7... if they dont get healthy we should handle them, but i doubt we see them in the playoffs
Philly - we're more talented, and theyre too young.. they do have a veteran pg, but harris has finals experience.. doesnt matter tho, we wont see them either
Atl/Chi/Milwaukee/Ind - we would beat any one of them... although give atlanta one year w/their current team, could be scary w/some help upfront
and now, back to work for me..... discuss

lets see once devin harris is starting and how everything is flowing , once everyone is healthy we can make some better predictions about this team.
honestly if we can grab the 6th seed i think thats ideal, because against boston or detroit we would get destroyed.

Of course we're making the playoffs. I've been having fun thinking about it myself. If Thorn's intention was to NOT make the playoffs, he could have just pulled a Memphis and dumped Kidd for all expirings and picks.
Right now I pretty much expect 7 or 8th seed, possibly 6th. The only teams clearly better than us are Pistons, Celtics, Magic, Cleveland and Toronto. Of course we shoot for 6th. Against Cleveland or Orlando would be a fun series; going against Detroit or Boston would just be sad or unwatchable.
If we hadn't traded Kidd, we are still better than Toronto, and I thought we might pass them for 5th in our usual late season surge.
The playoffs will be great because just like right now we are seeing what regular season players we have without Kidd, we will see what playoff players we have without Kidd. Don't forget Kidd was all about the playoffs -- that's where he shined brightest. Nowhere will Kidd's shadow loom larger than on the playoff stage. I want to see who will fill playoff Kidd's shoes.

Don't get so far ahead of yaselves yet guys. We're barely holding on to the 8th seed. We have an incredibly tough schedule the rest of the way. In our last 25 guys, we play playoff bound teams 14 times. The other 10 games aren't guaranteed wins either (Knicks, Pacers twice, Sixers twice and Atlanta). No way are we automatically making the playoffs. Its gonna be a grind the rest of the way.

If we do make the playoffs, I want the 8th seed.
1) It's just a higher pick in the draft, most likely 16
and
2) I want to challenge the best team. Idk why but I really see us matching up well against BOS. If Diop can have a defensive performance against KG like against Duncan then that can be the real Wildcard.

Not Enough Information for detailed analysis.
I need to see who Devin Harris and more time to see what this team is.
Same thing with Cleveland -- they made some major trades.
It's easy to say Orlando is the better match, because Lebron has proven he is as much a playoff stud as a regular season superstar. He won't allow his team get upset.
The Magic are playoff newbies, we have much more playoff experience.

the Nets have a tough stretch so Playoffs are definitely not a given.
That being said, IF the Nets make the playoffs Detroit seems like a team that has their number. Teams with excellent ball movement like Raptors are also not a good fit for the Nets defense.
You would want to avoid Boston but if given the choice I'd rather the Nets play the Celtics then the Pistons.
Other than Pistons / Celtics / Raptors I think the Nets would have a fighting chance against anyone in the East.
If Devin/Marcus combo is for real and VC/RJ playing the way they have, and if one of the bigs plays big (Krstic, SWat, etc) this is a team you want to avoid in the playoffs because they also have the potential to be a decent defensive team and you're gonna need that for any kind of playoff run.

Let's see.
After tonight's game, we are 26-33 with 23 games remaining.
9 of those are home games, 14 are road.
13 of these games are against .500 or greater teams.
We are currently tied with Atlanta in the L column, and 2 games ahead in the win column.
They have 25 games remaining, 13 home 12 road.
Only 8 of them are against .500 teams.
I really don't think we're getting in this year, folks.

you just burst my bubble. T_T
Yup, the playoffs are far from a gimme, they seem quite impossible. We are essentially fighting for 7th or 8th with philly and atlanta, with chicago and indiana in breathing distance.
Atlanta just added Bibby.
All are solidly under .500 teams, but Philly and Atlanta both feel like they are getting better and peaking right now.
Pretty much all of the +.500 teams we will face are all far above .500 contenders, fighting for playoff positioning.
I only count 9 games I think we might win, all those under .500 teams, .. and even if we win them all (which won't happen) 9-14, that's still only .400
Carter's would have to play at Lebron level... which I think he is capable of for maybe 2 weeks ... but not for 23 games.

Sorry

So, who do we like in the lottery?

After seeing Carter and Kidd make that incredible run for the playoffs in Vince's first year here, i don't think any thing is impossible for the Nets. And this team is far superior. They need to play with some damn heart.

That was an incredible run. However, that run was based on Kidd and Carter playing out of their minds for 2 months... I think we ended the season on an 18-4 run just to get in the playoffs. We don't have players who can carry a team like that anymore.
Also, we were winning those games against primarily Eastern Conference teams.

Look at the matchups from game #62 on. Then look at our current remaining schedule. Which one looks tougher?
