The MLE is around 6mil, so even if you sign Gibsonm you have no shot at Brand or anyone else worth a max contract. Marion wont be on this team for long, consider him a more athletic Eddie Jones but just like Eddie because he cant create baskets for himself doesnt do great in the playoffs. I cant remember which year but Bowen shut Marion down.

Sign Gibson to the full MLE.. draft Beasley.. Get a C in the next offseason or via trade at the dealine
C: Blount, Zo
PF: Beasley, Haslem
SF: Marion, Dorrel
SG: Wade, Dorrel, Cook
PG: Gibson, Banks
Gibson gives us the legit and reliable 3 pt threat, along with Marion somewhat. Marion along with Zo Dorrel Haslem and Banks can be the defensive specialists, while Wade and Beasley (more towards his 2nd n 3rd year) can be the main first 2 scoring options.
Gibson might not be the best ball handler, but most the time when the games on the line Wade has the ball in his hands anyway. I love Gibsons stroke though, and think he could really help the Heat out. The penetrate and kick would work perfectly with Wade penetrating to a wide open Gibson.

Assumption 1: We get Beasley with our draftpick.
Assumption 2: Marion signs a renegotiated deal along the underlying figures.
08-09 $17,000,000
09-10 $11,000,000
10-11 $12,000,000
11-12 $13,000,000
Should we or Toronto be interested in a deal a Marion for Kapono and Calderon (Assumption 3: resigned at a salary starting somewhere around the lower 8 mil $) type of deal?
I know that the numbers still wouldn't work, but depending on additional players involved I kind of like this deal.
Lineup Miami 08/09
PG: Calderon / Banks
SG: Wade / Cook
SF: Kapono / Wright
PF: Haslem / Beasley
C : Alonzo / Blount
We could still add somebody with the MLE or LLE. But, I like the fact that we could make the playoffs next year while still being flexible long term: we got young developing players (Beasley, Wright, Cook, 2nd rd pick) and could still make a splash in the '09-'10 FA-market.
My favorite kind of deal would be something like: Marion & Blount for Kapono, Calderon, Nesterovic (=expiring) and filler. But I guess they wouldn't do it
So more realistically something like Marion & Smush for Kapono, Calderon & Nesterovic?

I don't think Riley is that stupid; Marion isn't a cornerstone piece and he clearly wants a big man. I think what we're likely to see is a sign-and-trade, where Marion gets his extension and gets moved for something more valuable.
I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. Thanks for implying I'm stupid.

What does childless bring to the table that we dont already have? Yes he can shoot but i dont remmber him being great. This offseason i think the heat need to target big men and pg. We have our SF,SG set. Wade,Dorrel,Cook,Marion.
offseason list.
1.Calderon(26 yrs old)
2.Gibson
3.JCN
4.Andris Biedrins--
5.Nenard Krstic-C(24) -His stock is as low as it will ever get

From who? Ellis is a RFA. Golden State would match a MLE offer and only a couple of teams have the money to offer him more. They key here is that Golden State has several people re-up or extend in the next couple of seasons (Biedrins, Baron Davis, Pietrus, Barnes). They'll have to make a decision just like Atlanta. My gut feeling is that they keep Ellis.
IMO, his best bet (and more likely scenario) is for him to play for the qualifying for a year and go as a UFA the following year where there could be as many as 6 teams who can offer more than the MLE for a player like him. He could easily get a Mo Williams-type contract.

I would think Ellis would get about 7-8 mill/year. I wouldn't mind going after Biedrins for 8-9 mill/year if Marion opted out. Most likely though Marion will stay, we won't have the money for a big FA or young FA like Kristic, Ellis or Biedrins.
Another player I like is Louis Williams. I would think the sixers would try to match an offer for him, but if we don't land a player like Bayless, Rose I think he'd be worth a look. He's putting up 10.9 ppg, 3.2 apg, and 1.9 rpg while shooting 36% from 3 and 1.63 TO. They're pretty decent numbers for only playing 22 minutes a game.

I would think Duhon price would be around 5 million, nearly the MLE. Judging by the Bulls board and the times I've actually gotten to see him play, he doesn't seem more then a backup PG. Banks already seems to have that backup PG spot taken and has done a nice job there.
I don't think Duhon would be worth it.
