Best Player rivalries/matchups

Post#1 » by cdubbz » Fri Feb 29, 2008 7:51 am

In the current year what are some of the best ongoing rivalries or new rivalries between players?

--Chris Paul/Deron Williams--
Great matchup between two point gaurds in the same draft. They are both raisin their franchises to elite levels and will always be compared from now till they retire. I love watching them play against each other because the fans and media get into it and im sure both players do.

--Kobe/Lebron--
Not a heated rivalry as the paul/williams one and it isnt a direct rivalry as they only play twice a year and it isnt as intense yet. Its just overall fun to watch the top two players in the league play against each other. Now that lebron has a little more help on his team it might be more fun to watch. Both are huge NIKE products and its always great to watch them go at it.

--Brandon Roy vs Ther Golden State Warriors--
Haha as a warriors fan....were gonna be disliking ROY for a while for "stealing" Barons all-star spot. Its not a real rivalry, but i have a feeling warriors fans are goin to boo Roy for a while.

Dwight Howard vs Chris Bosh :D

Matchup-wise: No Homer, I luv to see the Magic & Celtics...both teams matchup really good with each other

Golden State/Dallas- -After last yrs playoffs & with the Mavs adding J.Kidd...this just got even more interesting

I always look forward to a Wizards and Raptors game. I remember earlier in the season when the Wizards won the first match up, I forget who, but one Wizards fan said "Yes! Not only did we win but we also beat our rival!"

To me it seems like the Suns always produce the best regular season games. Whether it's the Lakers or Mavericks, there's always bound to be a good and heated game.

garnett vs duncan-this is a classic.

kobe vs wade- cuz i kno for a fact that wade hates on kobe and tries to get a highlight reel on him (dunk/block/etc) and gets denied.

carmelo vs lebron- the same class, and 2 best individuals from that class.

paul vs deron- the 2 upcoming pg's.

dwight vs bynum- this is gona be a good one in the years to come.

shaq vs yao- it was all shaq, now yao's the best C in the game.

I was going to put this down, but this rivalry was more fierce from '97 -03 maybe...im just saying that because Duncan was just in the league in '97 and was a nice matchup vs garnett. Now they both have toned down a bit it seems and arent the beast they were early in their careers.

Dwight vs bynum -- never thought of that matchup, but yeah that is an interesting matchup to watch for years to come...too bad they only play twice a year

the most underrated player rivalry is Pierce vs Lebron when those 2 meet they up their games they have a intensity that some of those other rivalries don't have.

Spurs vs Mavericks. Very underrated rivalry, they play no bull, take each other to the limit and the games are always so darn close.

CP3 and Deron sucked this year, first game Deron was in foul trouble in a jazz blowout, and second Chris was in Foul trouble in a jazz blowout.

Both games were over before the 4th, and chris played **** while on the court regardless who he went against, and the opposite for Deron....

This is the reason why both teams fans respect each other, they let everything on the court do the talking, if they lose, at least they know there was no excuses in a loss. Whether its one game or a playoff series, they still respect each others games and the outcome. You lose a series? find, come back and rebuild and give it another go. Teams like pistons, rockets get alot of respect from these 2 powerhouse teams and fans.

Spurs vs Suns is not much of a rivalry compared to SPURS vs MAVS, any of the texas teams.
AJ:"I'm Western Conference," he said. "I'm Popovich. I'm for him, for Texas and for the Spurs."

Homer? anyone who says there matchups were fun to watch is lying, it was all Jazz blowouts. I know Jazz fans love it, but I know they aren't thinking "wow that was a fun matchup to watch." more like "LAWL, we pwned the hornets."

Chris Paul/Deron Williams< self explanatory

Kobe/Lebron< self explanatory

Kevin martin/rip Hamilton <the fundamentals match up (moving without the ball, midrange shot)

rip Hamilton took Kevin martin to school the last game. it was a thing of beauty.

Spurs vs. Mavericks. Not as flashy as some other series, but undoubtedly my favourite to watch. Always take each other to the edge, SA won today but who knows who will win tomorrow?

DAL-PHX and DAL-GSW are decent but not nearly as intense as DAL-SAS

Dallas VS SPurs is definitely my fave one. Both teams bring it whenever they play.

I don't really consider Kobe vs. Lebron to be a rivalry..nothing has really happened between the two of them, and Lebron shows love for Kobe in all of his interviews..there is no bad blood, no important games yet..nothing significant..it could happen, but hasn't yet..

Paul vs. Williams is more of a rivalry, considering they were drafted in the same year, play the same position, and play in the same conference..they play a number of times during the year..this one is going to be interesting for years..

Duncan vs. Garnett is a rivalry, but not a major one..they are my 2 favorite players, and it's a shame we couldn't get this rivalry when it mattered..it happened in the playoffs, but Garnett had a weak team at that point..we'll have a chance to see it in the finals the next few years though, and hopefully we will..McHale really **** this one up..

Mavs vs. Spurs..all the other Mavs and Spurs fans have explained this one..the hatred ON THE COURT is great..there is so much emotion in this series, and they play so tough against each other..it's great..

Suns vs. Spurs continues to develop..Shaq adds a new dimension to the rivalry..

Lakers vs. Suns is definitely going to be a big rivalry with Shaq involved..

Celtics vs. Pistons is going to be huge IMO I don't usually watch games or series where I don't like or hate either team, but I'll be watching this one..should definitely be huge..

Lakers vs. Spurs is the rivalry I'm most looking forward to..this was great in the early 2000's..LA has owned us in the past, but I remember how happy I was when we beat them in 2003..I have NO DOUBT that these will be the 2 teams in the conference finals, and the 2 best teams in the West(no disrespect to Phoenix or Dallas or NO)..I can't wait for this one..

honestly, I can't wait for the conference finals in both conferences..a potential Pistons vs. Celtics and Lakers vs. Spurs final 4 would be great for me..
