Josh Smith. Deng has been disappointing this season while Smith seems to have matured and is a better overall player.

At full potential? Josh Smith at full potential is one of the best players in the league. Most players don't reach their full potential, though.

Josh Smith is just filthy.

18 ppg, 8 rpg, 4 apg, 3 bpg!

Has Deng even gotten 2 blocks in a game?

Not really close.

Why all the Deng comparisons, anyway?

What would Josh Smith be like at his full potential anyways? I'm picturing a glorified Shawn Marion type with much better help defense that averages 3bpg, a much better shot, and can penetrate pretty good and slam it down like no other when left with an open lane.

Josh Smith has zero basketball IQ. He makes bad decisions and doesn't utilize opportunities. If that changed, I would select him right off the bat. But I would much rather have a guy who knows the game than one who is acting on impulse.

Stats can be fools gold at times. There's obviously no one who will dis-regard 18/8/4 and 3 blocks, but it goes deeper than that. Luol can give you 15/6 and be the more valuble player to his team than Josh hitting for 25/13/8bl.

At full potential you have to take Smith, but I doubt Smith reaches max potnential.

I'de actually take Deng if I'm choosing who will be the better pro. He's smarter, has more of an offensive identity, and is still a great defender from what I've seen. He's not the help defender that Smith is, but he's contributed to one of the best defensive teams over the last few years, and along with Sheed, and Varejo is one of the best in the league at gaurding Bosh when we play them.

If Deng recovers from this injury and overall this entire down year, I'd take him. If not, Josh Smith.

Deng has been injured, in and out of the starting lineup, and has switched coaches, yet he's still averaging 17/7/2 on 47% shooting this year.

Smith. Josh turns it over too much but he opens up the floor on offense when he plays inside (sometimes he is played out on the perimeter with Childress inside and it is the worst thing to watch, ever) and gets guys open looks. On D is is a master shot blocker who can switch out and guard smaller players on the PnR.

Deng was awsome last year but even at his best he is a catch and shoot player, not really a centerpeice or creator. Rip Hamilton but not as good on D. I think they will both get better but Smith's ceiling is absolutely higher and he is playing at a higher level right now.

As far as Smith never reaching his ceiling... look at the kid when he came into the league. Look at how much he has improved every season. If he continues to work as hard as he has been, there is no telling how good he can be.

At full potential, Josh Smith is a top 10 player in the league.

For my fantasy team, Smith. If I want to win, I'll take Deng.

There are very few players in the NBA worth more at full potential than Josh Smith. So if people pay attention to your question and answer Deng, they fail.

3.5 turnovers a game at less than 18 points is completely inexcusable, unless he's shooting 60%. Deng EASILY, and I don't care for him either. For all the complaining about everyone in the mainstream and ESPN being concerned about highlight plays, this thread shows that a lot of you aren't any different.

Besides, full potential? Totally pointless concept, Skita wins this thread. Even if Smith was at his full potential he'd be perennially in this thread:

I'm not a big Osh Smith fan but I'd easily take him over Deng.
