OK, let's open with the Toronto fan laughing at the Toronto fan... Don't take this personally, Kobe D.

This is totally wrong. Well, the first part, anyway; Miami's offense WOULD be deadly with a real point guard who wasn't among the worst decision-makers I've ever season and who could hit a jumper with reasonable frequency. Here, I'm understating because Calderon's a nasty shooter.
I don't mean to offend Miami fans who like Jason Williams but I've hated him since he was drafted, even after Hubie Brown "fixed" him.
This would be especially true if the Heat got Beasley, who'd probably love him.
As everyone here knows, it seems stunningly unlikely that it'll happen.
First thing, Riles isn't dumb enough to throw a max contract at Calderon; he's not worth it. I love him as a player and hope he retires a Raptor, but right now, he's not a max player. I'd still pay him $9-11M, sure, but a full-out max deal? Calderon will have been in the league three years, so he'll be eligible for up to 25% of the cap (IIRC), which would be about $14M if it jumps to $58M. Riley would have to be nuts to give that much money to Calderon, or otherwise sure that he would be incapable of getting another free agent and working under the assumption that the owner isn't worried about the luxury tax if he signs that deal and then uses exceptions to add other players and also drafts high in the lottery for a few mil and re-signs Wright, etc.
A few million here and there makes a difference.
