Offseason trade proposal w/ GS

Post#1 » by gswhoops » Sat Mar 1, 2008 10:21 pm

Just wanted to see if Phoenix would be interested in this deal:

Boris Diaw and the #11 pick for Al Harrington (We'd probably throw in a future 1st if you wanted)

I think you might like this deal because Sarver seems to not like rookies, you shave the final 2 years off of Diaw's deal (Al has 2 yrs/$19M left after this year, Diaw has 4 yrs/$36M) and get a big who can stroke the 3 at a high level (Al is shooting 40% from behind the arc). We would do this because Diaw is a better passer and the #11 pick could get us someone like Batum who would be the ideal 3 of the future for us.

So, would you consider?

I would consider it if Belinelli is also included.

Boris Daiw and the Atlanta pick for Harrington and Belinelli.

Would you do it???

i say no

Because Al is both the better player and has the better contract.

Harrington: 14.6 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.5 apg
Diaw: 8.1 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 4.0 apg

So Diaw's clearly the better passer, but Al has him in rebounding and scoring by a wide margin. Al's contract is roughly the same amount per year, but is half as long (2 years vs. 4) as Diaw's. This also means that Al would end the same year as Shaq and Nash, giving them a lot more flexibility when/if they choose to rebuild.

I agree that Diaw+#11 for Al is too much for us, which is why I think GS would be willing to throw in a future pick or something small like that (Beli is probably too much).

why do we need al's scoring?

we need diaws playmaking off the bench far more, especially once hill is gone

we saw how well diaw stepped up earlier this year when hill was out

every other suns fan might trade him, but im diaws biggest (only?) supporter here, so perhaps not the best person to answer this

I'd support him if his contract was half what it is now...I'm not a fan of Al either...

I would trade Boris Diaw and The Atlanta's pick for Harrignton but only of we would get Beli back. No Beli no trade!

Harrington offensively is better but Diaw's IQ and passing ability surpasses any advantage that Harrington may have. Plus if you guys get the Atlanta's pick you guys may be able to get OJ Majo or even Darrel Arthur which he is being compared to Antonio McDyess.

Hypotheticallly, it would be great for us to have Diaw's playmaking. But let's be real, it has vanished and I don't see it coming back.

Harrington could stretch the defense the same way TT did, and I think he is a better rebounder and defender. We would have a lot of different options available if we added Harrington and subtracted Diaw.

I would do the trade with GS if they took Diaw, Tucker, Atl's Pick for Harrington and GS's first rounder in 2009, and maybe a second rounder.

That would leave us with only $24 million on the books for the summer of 2010. Shaq, Nash, Harrington, and Bell all coming off the books. Without being able to add any big contracts the next two summers, I don't see that $24 million changing by too much.

man, if we didnt have hill, diaw would be averaging 13 5 and 5 at least for us this year

diaw has been pushed in and out of different roles for 3 seasons now

i think his playmaking and everything is still there, but we dont rely on him and strangely, its when we DO rely on him the most that he performs best

its wierd

Diaw will put up big numbers again...........when he is in his last year of his contract.

I would do a Diaw for Al streight up. But no way in hell am I going to give that pick away. Why? Because I think this draft is much deeper and will give us a better, younger player than both of these guys. We are really old, and we need some young stud I think to off-set the old guys.

I think we'd be willing to do Diaw/Tucker/ATL #1 for Al/09 #1

i still wouldnt do it

the ATL pick could net us a player like hibbert, i dont see why we would do that? weve held onto it through all this, not a chance of trading away a pick now

Of course you would, but no way in hell GS takes on an extra 2 years and $18M for an inferior player without getting some incentive back.

I would only do it if the pick is 11 or higher.

Taking GSW pick in 2009 gives us another shot at a lottery pick, albeit, a late lottery pick.

Diaw is useful playing fast small ball. I don't see this trade offering the SUNS any big benefits.
