LUE or NEWBLE

Post#1 » by movingaz » Fri Feb 29, 2008 10:01 pm

It looks like Ty Lue is being waived, ideal back up point guard something the suns have needed for 3 years.

Or Ira Newble a gritty small forward who the Suns need unless they think Linton can get the job done. Ira is not an outside shooter but a better defender the Giri.

Kings Set to Waive Lue

The Kings will buy out the contract of Tyrone Lue on Friday, according to the agent for the recently acquired point guard.

Lue, who was part of the Feb. 16 trade that sent Mike Bibby to Atlanta, will leave the Kings with the expectation and hope of joining a playoff-bound team. Or, at the very least, a team without so much competition at his position.

Lue - who was scheduled to earn $3.5 million this season - is one of three Kings point guards with expiring contracts, along with Beno Udrih and Anthony Johnson.

man we need a backup PG bad, even if it is a scrub like Lue

but somehow i dont see the suns keeping more than the minimum player numbers

ie giriceck signs, linton goes

i would personally sign giricek, lue, newble and keep linton johnson, that would put us at the maximum 15 players

Can the Suns cut anybody?

If they can't, PG is probably more important than a defensive SF at this point.

Plus, he is another 3 point threat.

Well then the Suns should pick up Giricek, Newble and Lue. That covers the backup PG, adds a decent perimeter shooter, and a quality defender all coming off the bench.

But with the way things have been going this is never going to happen :nonono:

Actually I think the Suns only have 2 spare spots, 3 if they got rid of Johnson.

Nash, Strawberry
Bell, Barbosa, Piatkowski
Hill, Tucker, Johnson
Stoudamire, Diaw
O'Neal, Skinner, Marks

That's 13 and the maximum is 15.

The Suns aren't smart enough to pick up all 3 players.

If I'm forced to pick one, I'd take Newble. Don't get me wrong, PG is more important to me, but I don't think Lue would help us all that much. I like the idea of having Hill handle the ball 10x better.

I'd give Lue a hard look just for some steady PG play for about 10 minutes to take the ball out of LB's hand. He's played with Shaq, has championship experience, can shoot the ball, and defend some smaller and quicker guys.

I wouldn't mind Newble too. He plays D, shots the 3s and has some toughness.

Cut Johnson and pick up both.

Why do we still have f**king Pike? If I were Kerr, I cut his old a$$, keep Johnson, and pick up Lue and Newble. Damn.

Why would they come here? To sit the bench?

Lue could legitimately get 15-20mins per game, and have the opportunity to turn it into a multi year deal either in PHX or elsewhere a la TT.

Lue seemed to get on well with Shaq in LAL, hopefully the big man can lure him for the min...

I do think a backup PG could see some merit in coming to the suns

A to get a ring
and B because our need for a backup is glaring

I don't like the idea of us signing Lue at all - he prefers shooting the ball over passing it, and we already got Barbs to do that.
Newble seems to be a better fit, but would be pretty redundant with Johnson around in my opinion, not to mention he'd see close to no PT, if any at all, anyway.

Pretty funny that there's a thread popping up for every single scrub getting waived at the moment. How about merging all of those into one big "Which one of these losers would be the least worse to sign?" thread
Seriously though, I doubt players like Lue, Newble or McInnis would really be able to help us, most likely since they wouldn't even be receiving a serious chance of doing so. Barry, Giricek, Cassell - those are nice options, too bad the only one of those we got a real chance of signing seems to be Gordan, I'd love to have Sam around. I, as well as several others around here, have been pointing out that a real backup PG is among our biggest needs this year all season long, and Cassell would be the ideal solution. But just because we don't get him doesn't mean signing a mediocre player like Lue or McInnis is necessary, at least not in my opinion.

If only the Kings would have released Anthony Johnson instead of Tyronn - he's not a great player, either, but at least he's a way better passer.
