Boston, Detroit, and Cleveland all made moves as none of those teams has a large window to win titles. Atlanta made a move because they need to learn how to win.
Two good Eastern teams did not make moves: Toronto and Orlando. Why?
The Raptors and the Magic are the most fundamentally stable rosters in the East. Both teams are one big piece and a couple small pieces from being great. Breaking up current roster to gamble on a title this year make no sense at all for either club.
Toronto and Orlando have established themselves as the two teams to watch for about the next five years. Neither team's GM is going to gamble away what is expected to be the marquee match-up in the East.
One interesting point, both teams need a upgrade at the SG slot to move to the next level. That's easily obtainable in next year's FA pool.

I just hate how every team in the playoffs think they can beat us, Cleveland, Nets, Philly, Toronto all think they can beat us (well their fans do).. meh.

No moves were made because there not spending the money on more long term contracts. You can blame Otis for not making the move but reality is that may not be his decision. You can blame Otis for putting the team in the situation finacially. Otis pretty much said it though. Deals were there to be made. He had to decide to make a trade now or use the MLE in the offseason.
Now I'm not sure why there not even in the discussion with some of these waived and retired players. It doesn't appear that anyone takes the Magic all that seriously.
The Evans and Cook deal is not help. There are some glaring weaknesses on this roster. If the front office wanted to fix some of those holes by using the expiring contracts they could have.

making moves just to make moves isn't right. i'm sure otis was scheming on something, but it just didn't go through. We can act like trading players is as easy as it is in nba 2K where all you have to do is make sure the money is right and that the other team has enough "interest", but seriously, there are plenty of things that go on behind those doors we as fans know nothing about. I mean, Otis was the one that traded steve francis and god awful kelvin cato away for ariza and darko, that was brilliant. He let deshawn go without overpaying him (which is debatable on how good that was), but he did it with hindsight knowing he was gonna go after rashard. He overpaid rashard, granted, but he has a direction and i like it. we got 2 scorers in cook/evans that in retrospect that are much better fits in our system than ariza was. he let darko go without over payin his ass, and we all know how that turned out. bottom line: 14 games over .500 and leading the division whereas last year we finished 2 games below .500 and got swept out of the playoffs. I'm sure otis knows all of our definciencies, I mean we all saw him go to all those games last year looking pissed about the team, then he did somethin. 1. he heard the fans and fired brian hill and 2. he's trying to build around dwight, which is what we need to do. ppl complain that we didn't make moves to get better, but in my mind we're plenty better already. If otis could have gotten a big for cheap, he would have. He just didnt' see anything out there. We let this season ride out, see what happens, then summer could be a big time for us again. we as fans are just looking at winning now, but Otis has to take into concern the team in the future. Maybe summer deals will be better for us.
sorry about the rant, i don't like long posts, but i'm tired of all these otis-hate threads. In my eyes we might not like all the moves he does, but really you can't argue with the results at this point.

Whether you think you CAN or you think you CAN'T, you're right.

We aren't an elite team, So making moves too get good player. If we don't get a Superstar, we are just a constant 1st or 2nd Round team every year. Maybe getting to the conference finals once.
So please don't act like we don't make a move guys.

The results are work in progress and it's all thanks to SVG's coaching, in fact the best players were already on the roster last year. Otis has just been lucky on a lot of stuff: from VanGundy turning out better than Donovan, to Hedo exploding, to the record ultimately being better than last season (for now).

I think that, as fans, we should keep in mind that we do have some talented players on this team and we shouldn't run them down and make them feel like we don't believe in them just because we don't feel we have all the pieces we need to win a championship immediately. Don't take for granted what is good about this team or some of the players you do like might not feel appreciated either.
that's true. i think Cleveland showed last year that any team can be a surprise in the playoffs. and we've always got the Dwight factor - if he becomes a beast on the boards and defense it'll give us that much more of a chance. we've got Mr 4th Quarter. and we've got Lewis in the wings who can drop 25+ on you on any given night.
not to mention the sporadic bursts of Bogans/Nelson/Cook.
