Turkoglu at PG?

Post#1 » by bucsmagicfan » Sun Mar 2, 2008 1:36 am

Anyone else intrigued by the idea of Turk starting at PG for the Magic? I mean think about it, he's probably the best passer on our team and he easily has the highest basketball IQ. He's a solid ball handler and at his size could completely pick the opposition apart. Even more importantly he'd be a matchup nightmare for opposing PG's and would be able to play off smaller guards and still get a hand in their face with his size and length, not to mention he could shoot right over any PG in the league. Thoughts?

Disagree. If Hedo has the responsibility to distribute the ball more, then I think he will lose his scoring effectiveness. I wouldn't mind sliding him to the 2 guard spot and getting a PG not named Arroyo or Nelson

True.

You could go with a lineup like this:

PG/F: Turk/Dooling
SG: Evans/Nelson(Vinnie Johnson role)
SF: Lewis/Bogans
PF: Battie/FA/Vasquez
C: Howard/FA/Foyle

Trade JJ and our first rounder to move up in the draft and take a young big or trade for an established big man. We'd also still have the MLE if we wanted to try and aquire an upgrade at SG.

I don't know....he'd constantly get beat off the dribble by quicker guards and would be in foul trouble by halftime.

Edit- ....but it would take care of that giant point guard orlando's always had a bone-air for..

Why wouldn't he be able to continue to score? He'd have the ball in his hands even more than he does now. Even if for some reason he doesn't score quite as much, he's a much better playmaker than Nelson/Arroyo/Dooling and would make everyone on the court that much better. I really think it could work, but maybe I'm just being fooled by tonights performance.

Thats a risk, but crap, when's the last time Jameer or Arroyo actually contained a PG. At least they wouldnt be able to shoot right over him all night long either.

you are crazy. You cant start turk at pg hed get murdered by quicker pgs. The best you could do is start him where he is now and have him run point-forward. Bull hell no to starting at the pg position. thats crazy

With the garbage we have running the point, I wouldn't mind Turk pushing the ball up the court on fastbreaks and what not.

Watching him play the point on some moments in the Knicks game makes you admire the guy even more. After watching and suffering from Nelson, Dooling and Arroyo it's a fresh breath of air to see Hedo do so well. Dwight is getting more touches then ever. He's feeding Dwight so well. He's flirting with the triple double.

He wouldnt get burned anymore than Nelson already does, but then again, you dont see the games so I wouldnt expect you to know that. Oh and almost every PG in the league can also shoot right over Jameer anytime they want, if they dont feel like running right by him that is. There's also the option of point forward, the idea is to have Hedo initiate and run the offense.

I think there's a distinction between PG and PF.

Courtside said it best, point forward is the ideal situation.
Not that he can't play PG, I don't think it would be any worse then it is now. But he's one of the best point forwards in this league.

You and Courtside are right, point forward is probably the way to go.

That makes us a much better defensive team and Hedo running the offense>>>>>>>>>>>>>Jameer, so we're better offensively as well.

That's actually not a bad idea. I'd be interested in seeing how it played out.
