But coaching is a skill within itself, separate from the skill of basketball, or whatever sport it is. Some have it, some don't

Couldn't have said it better my friend.

I bet most of the realgm certified "ballers" here couldn't coach a lick. Coaching is skill just as much as having the perfect jumpshot is.

It isn't usually the great players that make good coaches.

see for example

Larry Bird
Isiah Thomas


only time i would come to advice from MJ, is if i wanted to know how to get in too deep with bookies and get my father killed.

or how to have complete control over David Stern, that when I should be suspended for gambling, I just get to pretend to retire and then come back later.

Oh snap...

I like those Jordan fundamental videos - especially the one where he's teaching the fadeaway and misses 3/4 shots from 10 feet in. Might've been the best player of all time, but during that one day during filming, his mind was elsewhere.
