My Bucks Blow-Up Plan
I'm done with having a team culture that is entirely selfish while also being lazy on defense. It's been like this since before the Big 3 days, and I'm hoping this horrid year is finally enough to convince Kohl to invest in exorcising the loser mentality from Milwaukee.
I'd like to see us make two trades, both of which are based on deals fans of the teams' we're dealing with suggested with posts on this board:
First Step
Bucks trade: Mo Williams, Bobby Simmons, Charlie Villanueva
Heat trade: Shawn Marion
2nd Step
Bucks trade: Michael Redd
Blazers trade: Raef Lafrentz, Jarrett Jack, Martell Webster
Bucks 08/09 opening roster:
PG: Charlie Bell, Jarrett Jack, Ramon Sessions
SG: Martell Webster
SF: Shawn Marion, Desmond Mason
PF: Yi Jianlian, Raef Lafrentz
C: Andrew Bogut, Dan Gadzuric
That's 10 roster spots, and with whoever we draft that'd be 11. I think that this would be an incredible core to start with, as I think it could be a playoff caliber team that would play great defense. Furthermore, I think this roster would give both Bogut and Yi a perfect situation to develop, while also giving a great opportunity to Jack, Webster, and whoever we draft as well.
Now it is a big question whether or not we could pull off either of these trades, as they both are certainly better than what many Bucks fans think we can get. I don't think either are entirely wishful thinking though, but I also can see us adding more to close out either of them if need be.
Why the Blazers do it: They've been looking for a shooter for years now, and that need will be even more important to fill when Oden comes back to give him some space in the post. The team is in a great position salary cap wise, so Redd being overpaid doesn't hurt them much at all. They also need to be aggressive if they want to rise up in the incredibly competetive western conference, and despite the fact that they like Jack and Webseter, they can afford to drop both of them since neither would have a role on the team following this deal anyways. However, if it came down to it, I can see the Bucks doing this deal even if we couldn't get both of them anyways.
The only reason i can see them pass on this deal would be if they don't think Brandon Roy can play enough PG or Redd can play enough SF for them to be on the same team. However, I see Roy as a Joe Dumars style combo guard, and I also think that Redd playing as an undersized SF would be bearable considering there'd be the massive Aldridge/Oden tandem backing him up.
Why the Heat do it: The biggest reason they do this deal is if Shawn Marion wants way too much money. That team has a lot of holes, and many of their fans do not think they can afford to invest $20 million a year into Marion. Our team, however, is so desperate to improve defensively that I think we could afford to do it. Plus, our salary situation would still be a great despite this since we wouldn't be paying anyone besides Bell and Gadz real money for years.
I can see the Heat holding out for more to do this deal despite the money issue with marion, but I can also see the Bucks offering more to get a deal done. I'd be fine adding a protected future first to the heat package if we needed to, and I may go so far as to include this year's first if they were willing to give us Dorell Wright or maybe Dacquan Cook. I doubt we'd need either if they were willing to take Dan Gadzuric off our hands though, which I bet we'd prefer too.
Getting Marion on the Bucks is the key for me, as I think he'd be such a good fit that, aside from Yi and Bogut, I pretty much don't care what we'd have to give up to get him. If we had to make this a 3 way deal and send Jack or Webster or both to Miami to close it, I'd still do it. Marion would provide the Bucks with a defensive intensity, toughness, and hustle that has been absent for years, and I think we're so desperate for that kind of culture change that he'd be a bargain even if he makes giant money while having his game decline towards the end of his contract.
I also think that Marion could relish his role as top dog on a young team in the East, as the conference is so horrid that a scrappy team with Marion would have a real shot at making the playoffs. Plus, I think he'd play great next to Yi and Bogut as Yi's shooting would provide him with a ton of space to operate in the lane, and Bogut's passing would help him get a ton of easy shots in a half court offense too. This would be a young team that could develop together for years that would have the potential to do some real damage once Bogut and Yi develop.
All that while being a gritty, fun team to watch that would get people in Milwaukee excited to be Bucks fans again!

Marion is more than capable of playing a lot of minutes at PF, but that would create a need for a backup SF or SG depending on where Mason plays most of his minutes.
I wouldn't worry too much though since we'd have our pick and the MLE to fill some of those holes. And even if we couldn't I wouldn't worry so much since this is a roster built for the long term, and I'm sure we could fill the backup roles in time.
Edited to add that I forgot to include Raef Lafrentz in the first roster list---I'm not sure he has anything left in the tank, but I can see a smart defensive role player who can shoot getting some burn here, even though it's very far from ideal if we'd have to include him in our game-to-game depth chart.

Can Brandan Wright tutor him on proper bench etiquette?

I used to browse the GS board just to read their trash talk about Yi, but I stopped after awhile, just got bored of it.
I was a little sick today so just sat at home on the computer and visited the Warriors board for the first time since probably December, and they STILL talk about Yi. I saw 3-4 posts about him in the single thread I viewed.
Talk about needing to get a life.

Unfortunately for you guys, Im right about Yi and have been right the whole time.
You just needed a heavy dose of reality in the form of two months of horrible, horrible basketball by Yi for it to become undeniable truth to you.
Call it an agenda by me, or look at it for yourself and see if I may actually know what I am talking about.
BTW, how has your team been doing since Yi got planted down on his skinny butt? I noticed that you almost beat the Spurs last night and Yi only played a few minutes. It would be fun to see the Bucks record and how they perform when Yi plays less than 15 minutes.

As much as I love the second deal the Blazers DO NOT NEED REDD! Martell Webster is just as good a shooter and player then he is actually...if you ask me, and is more clutch.
They are not that stupid...I would not trade Martell Webster for Redd even though he and Roy would form a great duo.
Redd can't defend and he needs to have the ball. As I told you before, I like Marion but I like Ron Artest or Zach Randolph as well.
Call them what you want but I don't listen to anyone in this town who rip them when you need players who are 'will' players. "Will Winners" they impose their wills on the outcome of a game not just talk !
You need some winning attitude and a entirely different mindset of the core players.
You need a badass who can deliver and PLAY TO WINand who can get it done.

Its not an obsession, just something that I keep an eye on. If it was an obsession Id be here after every game telling you what a crappy player he is. I havent posted on your board for months.
BTW, how about actually addressing my points rather than attacking me personally? Unless you are not really into the whole truth and logic thing.

YOU A PF AT THE DEADLINE....ZACH RANDOLPH!
He was availible...He is that kind of guy you need to make a run at the show this year and if you did not like him move him later!
It was that simple!!!
29pts 17 rebs last night...he would be ideal next to Bogut who would take some pressure off of him and take off the double teams...
Stop worrying about his 'body language!' Screw body language! Body language does not win or lose games....He needed a change of scenery!
And so did we and we needed to clear some air and stench off of this team of slackers....if but for 3 months.
No team needed to make a deal even for the sake of just making one then the Bucks!
If the Knicks were gonna take 3 useless players off your hands and big contracts off your books and then give you an expiring and a legit PF and talented big man and physical presence...why wouldn't you do that!?
Even the Bulls picked up wacky Drew Gooden!!! Sometimes you roll the dice...and stop overpaying scrubsSF !
And they did not even ask you for Villanueva who you could have then moved in another deal to Sac town for Artest!
SF Artest
PF Randolph
C Bogut
PG Udrich
SG Redd
F Yi
There you go

Yi with 15 minutes or less, we are 3-5 which is 0.375 winning percentage. More than 15 minutes, we are 19-51 which is 0.372 winning percentage so its not much different. So we would have 22.1 wins instead of 22. Yeah, thats a huge difference. Golden State record with Wright getting more than 15 minutes, 1-3. Golden State record with Wright 15 minutes or less, 34-19. So Yeah either way its a small sample size so no conclusions can really be drawn. Go back to your board man. Come back when you have solid stats to back you up.

The fact you've even been here more than once makes you obsessive. The fact that you fantasize about slapping Yi makes you dangerously so. How's that for reason and logic?
So tell me, why do you care again?

I dont fantasize about slapping Yi. I just think that his expression after being bitch slapped would be hilarious. Or does he not have any facial expressions? Hard to tell sometimes. For the record Id like to slap Mike Dunleavy for the same reason.
I care about Yi because a contigent of your fans were flapping their gums about Yi to us. I also never liked the fact that so called experts kept talking about how we wanted him just because he is Asian and we have a large Asian population in the Bay Area. If it was Yao Ming then I wouldnt have a problem, but when its a crappy player like Yi then I dont like to read such illogical garbage being spewed.
So, now that this is out of the way, why dont you tell me about how Yi has been doing for you over the past two months.

I shouldnt have quantified it...lets just keep it simple:
How do wou think has the team done compared to before now that Yi has been put on the bench over the past several weeks?

1. That's a stupid reason to care. Very unhealthy.
2. Not that well. Anything else to add?

Yi's expression would obviously be the same as always, it never changes. So I don't know what you're talking about. If you have a problem with trading J-Rich straight up for that other guy take it somewhere else, but really we're in the same project boat so I don't see where any conflict could be coming from.
